hi, i have decided to make my forum into a blog. I was wondering - if the title of the blog is the window title for that entry how do i add to the window title without having a super long blog title. Also is there a way to change the blog titles text and font?

Help would be great as i am totally lost with the blog pages.

PS - i would also like to add keywords (meta keywords) to the blog entry pages - how do i do that.

Thanks Lee.

I think I've understood your question Lee.

Any blog post is (invisibly) labelled with a url which is a composite of the blog page url plus the title of the post. The trick is to keep the title of the post concise and descriptive.

You can't change the font defaults of the title of a post. The index is also very important and needs to be preserved i suspect that is a point for the fixed aspects of the post titles,

The meta words are only accessible in the content/Properties sidebar as normal.

Each post can be categorised by the selection of Categories and Tags. and I have no idea of these as metawords. They're certainly searchable in Google but depending on the rank of an individual post the likelihood of a hit is unknown to me.

The popularity of a post can be decided by references in other Blog referencing facilities such as technorati, Digg etc. These all add weight to the post and to the blog and to the web-site.

Can I just put in the definitions as I understand them because there are different uses made with some of these.

Blog here is considered as the Page

Post is considered as the title and content of a specific writing. (somehow the date is tied up with this but not able to be changed at all.) the post has a unique URL.

categories are self assigned broad group classifiers.
Tags are more or less sub-classifiers.

These two are often functionally mixed for users to search various posts or posts containing specific material.

Lee.. you go into your blog manager. Click on settings. There you can add the disqus code. It will be automatically applied to each post.

When Disqus is setup all you need to do is to click the title of any blog post and the disqus window opens up.

There is another thing to consider with the setup but not critical in initial setup and that's the feed and the priority or importance of the blog.

If you feel that your audience are going to grab the info as they're going through other stuff as well, then I would make the RSS Feed dock apparent on your home page (as well). This simply allows the functional reader to notice it and subscribe. it's instantly recognisable and your blog page may never be read by them simply the feed sent out and captured on their Google homepage or in their Outlook.

thansk Peter (& Littleus) - greta advice which had already come into my mind - so next question - if i drag in a blog widget in a new blog page do these automatically not get listed (is it a seperate blog manager - and if so is it a sperate RSS feed)

The RSS feed has a URL:http://hexham.info/{blog page name}.rss

You can place an RSS dock linked with the blog address anywhere you like. It's simply a facility holding the link URL. Users have to copy this URL and use it to subscribe with a reader to your blog. So you could have twenty of them about I guess. Simply accessibility to make the connection. You can paste a RSS dock button on emails etc and these can be used for subscribing to your blog feed.

You could have more than one blog on your site and each blog would have a distinct address. There is only one URL address per feed that is fromthe blog page. I have never considered the effect of two blogs on the one page and don't even know if it is possible. (can't imagine why there would be a need?)

PS: There are a miliion RSS buttons out there so you could easily catch a match. (I could send you dozens if you wish) i would suggest keeping the standard elements with the choice. There are some now moving away from this and there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what's a dock and what's a social bookmark button.

Technorati seem to have the best blog search at this time Lee. I haven't checked if you can rip it or not.

An interesting development for the last bit has been the use of so-called tag-clouds as a visual spotter of commonly called or frequently searched categories and tags. With this visual tool some developers are looking at combi traditional character string searches combined with the visual cloud tag and you simply can drop cloud tag items into the search as you go.

Clouds are good but they are used generally for your sites blogs and the size and weight of the font is an indicator of frequency of that classification. (I guess popularity). Roy Tanck created a moving tag cloud which is visually stunning for Wordpress. It spins around and you simply pluck the items out of the sphere. JS though and even WP are pulling it :( I was looking at developing it for here but the js thing has killed it)

Ice-rocket is another blog search that I've seen referenced but once again I haven't seen if it can be copied or borrowed.

The default author is easy Lee. New Post/ Advanced. Just type another authors name. You can change the author after posting also by editing the post via the title. Edit Post/Advanced change the name.

The date is a bugbear. It can't be altered after posting and it's an auto function. Not sure if it's locked into a Yola time clock or purely local. It's a function I would very much like to have access to. For example if you copy the blog over it will carry that date plus the new carry-over date. This would typically happen if you wanted to move your blog as you don't have a save-as function with blog pages.

Sorry i missed this Lee.

You could archive them if it was purely time wise. You could also have a different blog for different periods. The other way is by using a "category"

I think the other thing to consider is what you want to do after you are able to separate the posts based on some criteria. This will probably give you the best direction to take.

Sorry is that a statement with a question? Are you saying that the blog is preventing the mouseover function on your site? I'll jump ahead a bit and ask the obvious :) After publishing or in the builder?

I know the bookmark you mean but I haven't used it Yola side, so i don't have the experience. i have used it in Blogger I think and it did work there or something similar.

I have just added it as a test to my index and to my blog Lee. They both work. take it off and replace it. Check it's proximity to other additions and code??

I can say for sure though that re-tweets ( I don't use twitter but have seen a report here on this forum) don't work if you place the code in any post and neither does the Technorati re-post code. In fact it cut my blog. Kershnee had to kindly recover it for me.

from this I suspect that at this time any request for a repost isn't successful. I think Monique is looking into the Twitter issue.

Hi littleus,

I have had to rethink the whole thing. There are currently some insoluble issues. I'm still looking for an alternative embeddable blog. That is my first preference. If there's nothing around then I'm going to have to bite the bullet and re-direct to another blog. Currently I'm triplicating the blog. Two on yola and one with Blogger.

The problem with that is that you can be penalised and it's looking as if site advisors may-red list auto-internal/external redirections.

The blidget works excellently. Would like to see a few more options with background and font. Functionally fine. The idea of bringing in a blog digest from any other location so easily is a gem. The link works well. The index on the blog proper is flawed and easily corrupted . That's the problem.
