Hello Harth,
Can you tell me a bit more about what you are wanting your site to do. Do you want your site to be a web directory for other people to submit their site url to for inclusion? When you say "with search engine" do you mean that you want to have a search engine on your site to search the contents of just your site, or are you wondering about how to get your site listed in a search engine like Google. Any more information that you can give me would help.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Hi Harth,
You could have visitors to your site submit their information to you via a custom form. You could gather information this way such as Category, URL, Site Description etc. I would suggest gathering information using the Wufoo form build, it works very well.

Wufoo offers both free and paid options, so you can select the option that is right for you. When someone fills in your form their message will be stored in your Wufoo account and you will receive an email alert to let you know that you have a new message.

You will find the Wufoo widget in the "Forms" folder in the Content sidebar in SynthaSite.

After dragging and dropping a Wufoo widget onto your page in SynthaSite, click on the link in the dialogue box. Then sign up for an account with them if you have not already done so.

Then follow these steps on Wufoo:

1. Select the form you wish to use.
2. Click on save form.
3. The form manager will open up.
4. Click on "Notifications" - enter your details as to where you wish the info to get sent to (ie. your email address).
5. Click on "Save".
6. Click on "Save settings"
7. Click on "Code"
8. Copy the code and then and paste it into the Wufoo widget dialogue box in SynthaSite.

Your Wufoo form will then be embedded on your page and you can begin collecting information from your visitors directly from your website.

Here is a link to another thread in this forum with information on adding a site search to your site Site Search.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have further questions.

Hi Harth,

Your welcome!

You only need to edit the A Record to point towards Synthasite. We have a tutorial outlining the steps to configuring your domain, giving two popular domain name registrars as examples: Using a Domain Name not purchased through SynthaSite.

These are general instructions on how to configure your domain to point to SynthaSite. If you require specific help with the interface of your domain name registrar, please contact them for support as they will best able to help you through the process.

How to configure a domain name you already own:

1. Log in to your chosen domain registrar (eg. GoDaddy.com, Register.com).
2. Go to the DNS Management page.
3. Set up an A Record.
4. The IP address of your record must point to: "208.75.208.172"

Please note that it can take up to 48 hours (although usually less) for these changes to take effect and you need to contact your domain registrar if you need help in that regard. Feel free to forward any instructions you receive from them to us so that we can advise you further.

Once you have configured your DNS settings, click the yellow "Publish My Site" button in SynthaSite, "I already own a domain name". Fill in your domain name and follow the prompts to publish your site.

If you have any difficulty with this please let us know.

Regards,
Emmy

Hi Harth,

It sounds like your domain registrar will only allow you to change your name servers and not create an A Record. In this case, we suggest that you use the services of ZoneEdit. You can find the steps to using ZoneEdit on this tutorial: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/p...

The nameservers on your domain will need to be changed to the ZoneEdit nameservers.

These are the basic steps:
1. Sign up with ZoneEdit on www.zoneedit.com
2. From the homepage click on "Sign up".
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the form. You can select the free trial option under "Select Service Option".
4. After you have successfully signed up you should receive an email with your access details. Use these to login.
5. Once logged in, click "Add Zones".
6. Enter your domain and click "Add Zone".
7. If your nameservers are not correctly set up, ZoneEdit will be request that you update them. You will need to get your current domain registrar to correctly set your nameservers to those provided by ZoneEdit - ns3.zoneedit.com and ns17.zoneedit.com in this case.

Note: There can be a delay of up to 48 hours between your nameservers being changed, and ZoneEdit picking up the change.

1. Once your nameservers are correctly configured to point to ZoneEdit you should get a screen, which will let you manage your "Zone". To configure your domain to point to SynthaSite, click on "IP Addresses".
2. This takes you to an interface which lets you determine where your domain points. Leave the "name" field blank, enter 208.75.208.172 as your "Numeric IP" and click "Add new IP address".
3. ZoneEdit will now ask for confirmation. Make sure you have correctly entered in the IP: 208.75.208.172. We want to point both yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.comyoudomain.com or www.yourdomain.com, both will end up at your website. Click on the top "Yes" button to select this option.
4. Your domain now points to SynthaSite. You can test if this has worked by typing your domain into your browser. If all has worked correctly you should end up on a placeholder page displaying your site name. Bear in mind that these DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet.
5. In the Site Builder, click on the yellow "Publish my Site" button, choose option 3 (already own a domain). Fill in your address and follow the steps until your site is published.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions, please let me know.
