Help with external links, sitemaps, indexing

I was reading one way to get moved up the google index (which I am not currently on at all) is to support other sites by listing their links relevant to your site on your home page or another page. Well... I have I think 5 relevant external links on my home page and... I am doing google webmasters which I just submitted a sitemap to yesterday and they came back with 21 URLS and no problems... but if I click to view pages with external links it shows no pages found. Did I insert the external links incorrectly (they do work if I click on them)? Do I need to give the spiders more time to crawl? Or is there something I can do to make these external links more easily found? Another thing... if there is ANYBODY out there that can help me get on the index and work to increase the rankings among the index, please give me this advice... and view my site in the mean time (remembering, it's just getting started)... http://www.freemusiclistening.synthas... ... thanks for the support.

Hello Donald,

As yet your site hasn't been crawled by google. That generally is not such a delayed process. Indexing is a subsequent process and that can take some time. it's a matter of patience I think. 2 weeks is not uncommon and three months on the outer. :(

You have 5 incoming links so that's all good when the action begins. You have your keywords in place, your site is easily navigated,

After you're indexed there's generally a bit of a wait before you notice your rankings increasing. This really is the time to work hard at maintaining your site. Add new content. Maybe add a blog . I would suggest adding a social bookmark. Keep altering the music that you have available. You need to do this pretty constsantly to start moving up the ranks. It a very pleasant experience and process if you're really into your site.

Check to see if you have been indexed every day. Then work on the changes.

The worst enemy of a site is being static, especially a new site.

yea, thanks... I actually only begun my site about three days ago and already have over 200 songs available... so... moving at an approximate rate of 67 songs per day and soon to be more when I have more time I'll soon have plenty of songs available. I do though have a question about the blog, I have once tried posting a blog on a different site of mine and it SEEMED like it was only for me to post and others to read it. If I post a blog, are my visitors able to post in order for others to see it... kind of like a discussion board. Or are there any options bc I would like it very much so that my visitors can discuss among other visitors. Is there anything else I can do to increase my rankings among google besides what is in the general help - tips to promote your site!?

Yes your readers can respond to your blog. Yola has DISQUUS featured for this. Worth orienting yourself over it. If it's not what you want then you can always put on a chatboard such as JS-Kit. (http://js-kit.com)

If you want to go the whole hog then you can easily install an embeddable forum such as that available from http:// nabble.com. So lots of options and there are more. :)

A really easy thing to do is to put a social bookmark on your site. Lots of options there. they work very effectively compared to an advertising link that you may ask a friend to install. All you have to do is register then place their logo on your site. Almost inconspicuous but instantly identifiable. People see your site, like your site, book mark it and tell their friends It's an exponential growth thing and it only depends on good content. Everything else is pretty well a level playing field.

Another social feature is Google Friend Connect. It poetentially generates an interest base growth beyond the normal one to one. Easy to install on Yola sites.

I was also wondering... I just started google analytics and I DID put the tracking code on some of my pages... thought I'd test it out and view some of those pages and see what google analytics says... but two hours later... nothing... just wondering... is it because it recognizes my IP and doesn't include my visits or is it because it needs more time? or did I make a mistake? I like knowing these answers so I can fix mistakes early.

it will record every visit including your own - if you preview a page it will even record that. 2 bits of advice - 1, when it comes to SEO you have to relax and let things happen, nothing is instant, and 2 always mainly worry about real people coming and enjoying the content of your site, the rest follows.

About your site - the search could be improved on Pico search do a good free site search, also be very careful when it come to playing copyright music

good luck - Lee.

Donald,

there's another analytics option. http://getclicky.com. This one is really cool. Takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes to find your way round, certainly easier than Google. It gives you simailr analysis. It's free with premium services as an option, the first 30 days is fully featured premium. You can even see who is looking at your site right at this very moment. If you're very clever you can work out the identity of amny of your visitors, name them and then you can see when they revisited, what they looked at, what they downloaded.

It's dynamic there's no 24 hour wait like Google Analytics. I know you would enjoy this one.

getclicky you can turn off your own visits very easily
