1. Drag and drop a Picture Widget onto your page. The Picture Widget is located in the Sidebar on the right of your screen.
2. The File Manager dialogue box will pop up. You will have the option to upload pictures from your computer or choose from pictures which have already been uploaded to your File Manager.
3. To upload a picture from your computer, click on the first option: "Select" next to "Your Computer". A second box will pop up and you will be able to browse your computer's folders to select a file to upload.
4. Click on the uploaded picture file you want to add and click "OK" and the picture will be added to your page.
5. When your image is added to your page, Image Optimization is automatically turned on. If you don't wish for your image to be optimized, then simply click on the Picture Widget Toolbar - optimizer "off".
6. You also have the option the change the image. Click on "Change" on the Picture Widget Toolbar, and you will be able to replace the image.
7. You can also edit the image using Picnik.
8. If the image is displayed too largely on the page, you can simply drag and resize the image to your preference.

What I am asking is how to get a background from: http://creatr.cc/backgrounds/ it only has solid color backgrounds as far as I can see, or am I wrong?

I have not used creatr.cc myself but it does appear to only have solid backgrounds. If you do a google search for free backgrounds you will find a number of different options. Let us know if you are looking for something specific and we may be able to help further.
