HOMEPAGES - need your opinion please

Oh boy.. my head is starting to hurt now from all this work!

Take a look at my homepages please. (You'll find the links to these along the top right hand corner of the page) I have 4 similar styles. I want to know which one is more aesthetically pleasing. Please don't worry about the color blocking. I still need to work on that one. Don't worry about seeing if links work, etc... I'm just after the look of the site. Then, once I get it all figured out based on your opinions, I'll set the style through-out the site.

I'd really really appreciate it.

Ok I love, love your banner.......so great, such great colors! I dont like (dont ask me why) homepage 2, I do like homepage 1. Felt easier on my eyes for some reason and I liked how you created the nav buttons on the side, how did you do that? My 2c littleus. :o)

Rizan.. would you mind looking again? I just renamed my homepages so now I'm all confused about which ones you liked. There are 4 of them!

As for the nav buttons - I can definitely help you with that one. I'll add it to your thread about insert images. Okay. I'll do that tomorrow. I'm about to head off to bed.

Hi Rizan

I still have the Littleus site. It's my blogging site about my girls.

The Deja Vu Apparel is my little wee store I'm trying to construct.

Thanks for checking it out again. Thanks for your opinion cuz it does matter! The banner is simply a photo of a bunch of fabrics squished together which I found online. I just added the border. The "streaming" is called "horizontal marquee scroller". You can even add text if you want.

what can i say - you are the all time 'dark horse' , this is some of the best looking content ive seen, i love the menu in page 3 and the marque images, the banners also super nice. I like parts of all the pages .

4 is a bit of a all rounder - have you tried adding the menu from page 3 into the gap under the images on 4?

If you use the page 3 menu maybe something needs a little tweak with the mouseout code - im sure if you asked a Yola code master employee to have a look over it they would. It seems to work, but i think it could be tuned.

Excellent work Littleus . I'm going to have to start working harder.

Thanks Lee for your opinions. It's people like you and Boomer who inspire me!

I have thought about adding the menu from page 3 to page 4 and may end up doing that. That way it's a bit of both worlds.

Page 1:
I like the boxed images. I would do an opacity mouseover like I have on my Helderberg site. I'll give you the code. Its extremely easy and works in all browsers. (Not sure about IE 8 'cause mines not working)
Don't like the "second hand stores " heading taking up 2 lines.
Maybe not centering that one might get it onto one line.
Is there a reason for it being a different colour??

Page 2:
I like it. I think I'm getting a bit tired of the mouseover buttons now.
I'm trying not to use them as much on my new site. Just me though.
I'm on a reletivly fast connection and I still seem to be having that delay on your buttons. Short delay but noticable. You may not notice it as much because they will be cached by your browser while you work on your site.
That mouseover code on my tutorial on forsite preloads the images on pageload so that it does not have to download it on mouseover. The mouseover is therefore instantaneous.
Otherwise Google search "pre-loading images"

Page 3:
Some nice tricks with the tooltips and dropdown menu on the shopping cart.
I don't think I like the top navigation though. Just me again, but I prefer
the images in the boxes like on page 1. You could still do the tooltip
there if you want or just use the "title" attribute.

Page 4:
Simillar to page 1 except for the images in the boxes. A picture tells a
thousand words. I rest my case.

Overall I think you have done a stunning job Littleus. Very inviting home
page (s). I know how much work you have put in there but let me tell you it is well worth it. Spend the time on your home page, you won't be sorry. So for me the best one out of the four is..............homepage 1.

Thanks Boomer for such a thoughtful analysis, though it doesn't make my decision any easier! lol.

Page 1: Great idea about the opacity thing.. I was going to look into that but it escaped my mind. I'd love to have that opacity code. The "second hand stores" does not fit onto 1 line. It's only a different color cuz I was playing around with what colors may work with my theme. I haven't figured the color blocking out yet.

Page 2. Yah, I know what you mean about the mouseover buttons. It is getting a little tired. Other than using actual images (such as my page 3), I'm not sure what other options I could use to navigate through my site that doesn't take up a lot of space. This is one of my concerns if I use the images in tables as my navigation on my other pages. It takes up a lot of room. I'm open to suggestions.

Page 3. I still have to work on that drop down menu thing. It's not working the greatest but the concept is there. I'd love for a way for the drop-down to close on mouseout but I haven't figured that part out.

Page 4. I agree that it probably looks much better with images. Lee suggested adding the image nav bar to this site. I may consider that.

Homepage 1 - This would be my choice. It's nice clean and inline.

Homepage2 - Similar to 1 but personally I didn't like the tabs(menu).

Homepage 3 - The navigation at the top is a good idea but does need tweeking because of a lot of flashing when hovering over it. If this was fixed It could be good.

Homepage 4 - Will it too is good! Havn't much to say on it!

My thoughts homepage 1 or 4.

Hi Connor

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Re: Homepage 3
I agree that the nav bar needs tweaking. I was attempting to hack a code which allows me to make a drop box with images and to open and close on mouseover, mouseout. As you can see, I haven't quite got it worked out. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear it.

Impressive littleus! They all are absolutely stellar, but I am going with #1 as my fav. It is very clean and I like the About, FAQ etc images along the left. Super job!

Hey Ken... thanks for your comments. I will definitely keep the scrolling images although the images themselves will change. I just used my family pics to see what it looks like.

Hi L,

I've gone to and from your site many times.

2 was a page that I liked least the first time. 1 and 4, I kept comparing they sort of shadowed out no3. .

So out of 1 and 4 I'm going for number 1. The icons add further lightness to the page and it's a very clean and airy atmosphere

.

Hey littleus,

Just in case you didn't see it, I've created a tutorial for the opacity on mouseover, over here: http://getsatisfaction.com/yola/topic...
