How can I deal with the [big] banner on a page I've used to embed a blogger blog with iframe? I like the banner on every other page, but it's just way too large. Even if I were to make the banner transparent, the blog is too far down. What can I do? please see my website, dollmakersmuse.com, the page is blog (it's still a bit of a mess, it's not done yet) Thanks!
And also, I can't figure out what size to tell the blog to be.
I changed the width to 1200 px but it looks weird.

You may be able to disable it just for this page? Depends on the style and the skill.

The site is password protected

The blog width of 800 will allow a 600 px image to fit without cramming the edges.

Hi Gop thanks for answering so quickly!
My website is dollmakersmuse.com, and the page name is blog.
If I can disable the banner that would be perfect!

OK. First : Set your width to 950. That will match the upper bit. You have room to move your left margin back in which then should give you a fairly good fit, I'm hoping.

Can you unprotect your site please because I would like to go into other pages to get codes as the iframe prevents access by various tools.

It's OK now, I'm in.

OK. here are a couple of things to try:

Set your iframe width to 978 px,

Place the CSS following into an HTML widget at the top of your page.

<style type="text/css">
#logo {
border-bottom-color:#F3F3F3;
border-bottom-style:solid;
border-bottom-width:0;
border-image:none;
border-left-color:#F3F3F3;
border-left-style:solid;
border-left-width:0;
border-right-color:#F3F3F3;
border-right-style:solid;
border-right-width:0;
border-top-color:#F3F3F3;
border-top-style:solid;
border-top-width:0;
height:0;
margin-bottom:0;
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
margin-top:0;
width:978px;
}
</style>

Here's how it looks at the width of 1200 px with the modification.

There are still a few more things we can do to fit it into the page.

Now with your minds eye pretend that the top bit isn't there (cos I changed screens!!) and sort of mentally merge the previous one with this one and I think this will then be OK?

I'll leave it there for the time being. Tell me what you want to see in the final edition and I'll come back to it.

I just tried to view the page through "edit website" on yola, and this is what I see:

Is there any way to get it to look the way you have it above, but without all the white?

No, you won't see it on your side. This is using tools that allow a remote person to play with the pages but not affect anything on the published site. It's like a proofing tool. When it's all up to scratch then I'll copy down the code and give you instructions on how and where to place it.

I'll do that in a few hours time.

wrt the white horizontal borders, I think I can et rid of that. I'll work on it later. and get it to scratch. I see that I have to try and add back a bit of a border at the top otherwise it will look a little truncated.

Your menu won't be centered it will be left justified as it appears above. The alterations will only affect your blog page and no others. OK?

Must go. Speak later.

Hello Rivkah,

I think that I have this worked out

On your Yola Blog page (not your external blog) please place an HTML widget

and into this please copy and paste this code (through Notepad to strip unwanted format codes) into an HTML widget.

<style type="text/css">

#page {
-moz-border-bottom-colors: none;
-moz-border-image: none;
-moz-border-left-colors: none;
-moz-border-right-colors: none;
-moz-border-top-colors: none;
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
border-color: -moz-use-text-color #F3F3F3 #F3F3F3;
border-right: 20px solid #F3F3F3;
border-style: none solid solid;
border-width: medium 20px 20px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 20px 0 0;
width: 1200px;
}

element.style {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
}

#sys_banner {
height: 0px;
margin: 0px ;
width: 1200px;
}

#logo {
border: 0px solid #F3F3F3;
height: 0;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 1200px;
}
</style>

Please let me know how this works for you and if there are probs I am free to work this out from this time. There are some other modifications I can suggest for tightening this up but feel this is a reasonable and fast starting point.

Hi Gop,
I created a widget in the blog, and I just copied and pasted the code into the widget and saved it. The blog displayed the whole code. Would it be better to put the code staight into the blog without a widget, by editing the html?
If so where would I put it?

Here is the html of the blog itself:

Place the code on your Yola page and not in your external blog.

It's a one step process hopefully. The code that you used to place your blog into you yola site remains.

If you have created the page as a 'blog' style page rather than a normal page, I would delete it and createit as a standard page. There is no advantage in creating this as a blog type page as you are not creating any posts within this. The blog style page has a limited functionality and is very difficult to edit subsequently.

Oh of course, that makes sense.
I went ahead and put it into the page, and it did take away the banner. But the blog is not aligned, and there is html code where the banner was

OK. It seems as if you have duplcaited some code.

Can you take out the widgets except for your iframe. Your iframe code should remain.

Then add an (one) HTML widget with this code only:

<style type="text/css">

#page {
-moz-border-bottom-colors: none;
-moz-border-image: none;
-moz-border-left-colors: none;
-moz-border-right-colors: none;
-moz-border-top-colors: none;
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
border-color: -moz-use-text-color #F3F3F3;
border-right: 20px solid #F3F3F3;
border-style: none solid;
border-width: medium 20px 20px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 20px 0 0;
width: 1200px;
}

element.style {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
}

#sys_banner {
height: 0px;
margin: 0px ;
width: 1200px;
}

#logo {
border: 0px solid #F3F3F3;
height: 0;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 1200px;
}
</style>

After pasting it into the widget and saving then it may be a good idea to see if the code is as it should be with no additional pieces of code added. If so then edit them out.

Basically what this does is to build the format of your page without any additional stuff being added. Your navigation and background remains in place and nothing else. The re-formatting has accommodated your external blog width of 1200 pixels compared to the default width of the centre part being approx 970 pixels. I see one thing I don't like and that is the dual vertical scroll s. One on your blog and one on your Yola page but at this stage I don't know how to rid the page of one or the other.

Hopefully this is what you want.

Hi Gop,
I tried it out, and it's almost there.
Here is what I see now.... the problem is that the only thing you see is the banner and you've got to start scrolling to see the blog

OK,

If you can amend the code in the first section of #page, just after
width: 1200 px;
and the first occurrence of
}
create a free line by hitting enter
and add into that empty line

height: 900px;

let me know how that goes?

PS: You could probably substitute that with
height: auto;

No forget the auto. That won't work.

have you made any alteration to your iframe or your Blogger blog height at all?

That's probably the most likely reason.

I can see that you have by the border around the frame. Just bring back the original settings and it should be OK.

What are the original settings?
I'm so embarrassed... I don't know what you mean :-)
I think I would rather cut whatever is in the widget out, and replace it all with the correct code (even if it's just one line being adjusted within all the code)
Can you please tell me what to erase and what to replace it with?
Thanks so much and please excuse my lack of knowledge

OK.
I suggest creating a new page and calling it "alternate"

Bring in your external blog s you have done previously. (I do not know how you imported your blog originally onto the Yola site but you would need to repeat that.)

Then add an HTML widget onto the page and add this code but please Copy the code into Notepad first then Copy from Notepad and Paste it into the HTML widget. This will remove any inadvertent format code.

<style type="text/css">

#page {
-moz-border-bottom-colors: none;
-moz-border-image: none;
-moz-border-left-colors: none;
-moz-border-right-colors: none;
-moz-border-top-colors: none;
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
border-color: -moz-use-text-color #F3F3F3;
border-right: 20px solid #F3F3F3;
border-style: none solid;
border-width: medium 20px 20px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 20px 0 0;
width: 1200px;
}

element.style {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
}

#sys_banner {
height: 0px;
margin: 0px ;
width: 1200px;
}

#logo {
border: 0px solid #F3F3F3;
height: 0;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 1200px;
}
</style>

We may have to tweak this further but need to see the clean outcome first.

Hi Rivkah,

Another option would be for me to do the additions for you and I'm happy to do that.
It means a bit of a leap of faith for yourself as I would need access to your sitebuilder with your login details.

If you wish to go this path then you can contact me on gop@designscent.com
Include your login details. After it's finished I will remove all records of your login from my computer and suggest that you would then change your Yola password for security.

I will wait to hear your response.

I have found the code you have used to place your blog on your Yola site so that is now very clear. <iframe src ="http://dollmakersmuse.blogspot.com" width="100%" height="300">. It's the height statement here that I think is causing the smaller aperture of your blog.

I'm still more than happy to keep plugging at this as we have been doing but as you can see it just takes time because we have to wait for each others actions before we can appraise and move on. There are differences in perspectives because we are using different tools to manipulate the site. You are using the sitebuilder and I am using Firebug which allows me to make adjustments on my side without affecting the site on Yola, so the effect to a small extent is based on the setup I have, not only on the code that is entered into the site builder from your input.

Hi Rivkah,

Think it's all completed. Let me know if there's anything else.
