Hello Alex,
Your site will always open to the index page so whatever you have on that page is what the site visitor will first see. How do you want your site visitor to get into the other part of your site when they are on the page with just the image? Will you have a link that takes the person to the home page?

You could always pull all of your menu pages "Out of Menu" so that you could make your home page to just have an image on it, but then you would need to manually create your navigation on each page because the navigation is site wide (if you pull the pages "Out of Menu" for the home page, all of the pages will be out of menu).

Please let me know if this doesn't answer your question or if you would like more advice on this topic.

Got it.

create another Index page. simply put that image on it.

Save your old index as another name. When you come back online, so to speak, delete this one and rename your original.

Got that :)

Yes Alex... somehow I think the message is getting missed here. Peter is correct. Save your flash image on a page of it's own which would eventually become the index page. Then, you'll need to link this image to your "real" homepage. This homepage will have to be called by another name like "homepage" or something.. just not "index". However... to get a clean look, you will need to pull out all the tabs.. and create a menu box which will link to each page. Does that make any sense?

Give me some time to give you a guide on it. Others who have done it should offer their solutions as well.

OK Alex,

I'll give it to you in a couple of stages as I really need to confirm that the code is good.

But the outline is very straight forward.

Your image will become your Index page. OK?

BUT you will never return to it after the initial opening of your site (each time that is)

rename you original page to something else and check that it has in fact deactivated it's index status

you must now inactivate the automatic menu.
Are you familiar with this process?

Then create the menu as you want it to appear in text on each page.
link the relevant pages to each menu item on each page.

basically that's the outline.

In the interim can you put a button or "Click here" link somewhere on your flash page directing to your first real page (which was your original index page). That will keep you going until we get a safe code that basically activates when you click. very simple I know but really imporatnt becasue you could burn in hell for eternity if the program got lost in bad code.

Great job getting this started Peter.

Alex.. you can always pretty up the menu later with buttons or with a menu generator.

I'm confident that this will work out!

I have another thought to offer.

Would you consider a timed opening of your flash page and then auto to your first page?

That's OK. A lot of stuff here.

Propose a timed display of your flash on opening your website. I suggest a 5 or 10 second display then it will automatically go to your first page (Which was your original index page).

Alex,

Here is the simplest code and i hope it works.

I have deliberately set it for 30 seconds because this allows you to get in and out of the edit page before it redirects. once you're comfortable with it you can change that timing.
Also I've labeeled the page it goes to as page.php. rename this to the appropriate name.

The code can go on the same page as your movie code.

You know the most interesting aspect of this code is that it's a meta tag and it's not in the head section of the page. Partly the reason I challenge statements about meta tags not being functional for stopping robots etc on that argument. Here's one that is functional and is never used in the head section.

That code was designed for a timed redirect to another site. I think it's clunky but it has worked really well. It certainly gets rid of anything that may hang around and swf files seem to do this a bit.

I'm 99.99% sure there would be a more appropriate code but I haven't used it. If Ed or Boomer come along and see this or if you notice them give them a yell. For sure they'll have a better alternative.
