Hi ricktouch,

Is this for the Yola Online Store?

If so Royal mail is the most difficult to set shipping charges for. You need to set a matrix to handle this with a few assumptions.

The assumptions needed would ideally be the same product size per article as Royal Post take size into their calculation of postage. The store however only considers weight.

So for the purpose of this explanation Find the postage for 1 item.

If the combined weight is greater than equal to or greater than 5 times the weight of a single item then create a shipping charge of zero for the various and all postcodes/regions in the UK.

Your other items would be "World" shipping charge schedule. But please take out the UK from the rest of world.

If the items are very different in Size weight then this approach won't work.

Wow...what a fast reply....I'm impressed

The reply sounds quite complicated - but I understand what you mean and will have a go.

The eight does vary but I can overcome that because I don't have massive variations

It might take me a few days because I only took on the store last night - but I will let you know how I get on

I have just tried what you said.

I placed each item at 1lb
But the individual single item I tried to sell was estimated at £5 postage not £1

I assume I used the wrong column...which columns should I use?

Shipping>User define methods> New Shipping method.

Name : UK post 1 item
Weight Limit: 0 -1 lb
Price per Order:£1

New Shipping Method: UK Post 2 items
Weight limit: 1.01 - 2 lb
price per order: £2

etc: 2.01-3lb, £3;
3.01 - 4lb, £4;
4.01 to 5lb, £5; {up to 5 items(5 lb)}

Then
New Shipping Method: UK Post more than 5 items.
Weight limit: 5.01 - 40 lb ( 40 lb is example only)
Price per order: £0

Please note that each definition begins with X + 0.01 lbs otherwise you can get conflicts.

Your zones should already be set up and referred to in the lower box of each shipping method definition.

Hope this helps. Anything else please ask. if this doesn't work or I haven't explained it clearly then please make a screen shot and paste it here with any annotation to help.

PS: the weight unit with Royal is the gram and the separation is 250 gm but use 500 gm as the step. If you use lb weight then you may come unstuck and undercharge for postage I think. The real cost difference may be pennies of course and it is then irrelevant. I'd love to know the story behind the RM's shipping charges... there has to be one! :)

Well I have to say you are a genius.

I just love somebody who has the brains to figure a "work around" over a tricky situation.

It works a dream...Thank you very much.

Your only problem is that you are so helpful I can't help but ask another question.

As I said, this works great but how can I check if Europe and The World work the way I want it. I tried changing my location to Tonga but it thought it was in the UK

OK Rick hopefully I can point you to the logic,

You have to place additional zone(s) into the system.

in this case then you would create a Zone called World (you probably have)
you then have to add in all the countries minus the UK (? minus EU countries). if you are separating Europe from the rest of the world then you would create a zone for Europe and include all the countries of Europe (There's a handy facility included which can shortcut the countries addition)

Then you have to create shipping charges for each country (usually grouped for the purpose of postal charges by the provider) and a postage rule calculation criteria.

This then is really a matrix which the program steps through until it finds the first occurrence of correct country and then over to shipping charges and compares the weight of the item(s) to the rule set up.

Hope this helps and call out if I need to clarify anything with you.

With countries it's important to use the listed name of the country for input. That's why there is generally a drop down list when people add their countries address. eg: Laos is a country some would write Laos Peoples Democratic Republic, Laos PDR and others Lao, intuitively. Only one will be matched and that will be confirmed by the Country dropdown when the customer fills in their address or maybe their PayPal subscription. There's no room for error on this but well taken care of unless you take shortcuts testing Shipping Fees

if however a country isn't found in the Zone setup then I have no idea what happens. maybe escapees are returned to the motherland and have to pay a £5 tiket; £10 to Australia and Free for Thailand.
This I will have to look up.

Finally you have got it in to my (what I thought was a logical) Head

It works perfectly for me.

I must say that your support is second to none considering the overall low cost of Yola.

Up until a few years ago I used other companies web developers as part of my business. They charged up to £18,000. You did get more....but not £17,000 plus more.

I would recommend Yola every time - I have already done so - even without this incredible support..........and you can quote me as much as you like

Once again - Thank you

The clue is in the avatar. Copy & paste the Thai into Google translate.
Gop is already translated and the second part of the sentence is a double entendre you will need to translate Thai word for the second noun. Listen to pronunciation in the Google translate facility. It all fits with the Avatar. Gop is more accurately anglicised as Kop but "K" in Thai is not aspirated(?) and is closer to the English "g" rather than the hard sound of "k" It's sort of in between because Thai alphabet has many more characters and sounds than the Roman alphabet.
