How do I activate a new subdomain and transfer a site to it?

I followed the 11 step instructions for creating a subdomain from a domain I purchased from Yola. However, when I try to access my new subdomain (brian.bendag.com) on the internet, I get a message saying that my subdomain "does not exist or is not available." Also, once I successfully create my subdomain, how can I transfer to it a site I published on my primary domain.

Hello,
When you create the subdomain, you will need to publish a new site to the subdomian.

So if you went through the instructions to create the subdomain brian.bendag.com you will need to create a site and publish it to the subdomain.

To do this:
1. Click on "Publish Site"
2. Choose to publish to your own domain, click on "Use My Domain"
3. Then publish the site to your subdomain

When you have a subdomian, it is like two separate sites. You have your primary domain: bendag.com and your subdomian brian.bendag.com.

Hope this helps!

OK, how do I get to “Publish Site”? From “my site” I only see “create a new site” or “update my site.”

Hello,

Go into the site in the Site Builder that you want to publish to the subdomian. You will see a yellow "Publish Site" button.

When you click on this you will be able to choose to publish to your own domain, click on "Use My Domain", you will then be able to publish this site to the subdomain.

Let us know if you have any trouble with this.

In order to go into the site builder I need to leave advanced domain settings, and when I do, I seem to lose the new DNS records I created. Also, in my account the yellow button in the Site Builder reads “update my site,” not “publish my site.”

Hi Brian - I've just replied to your email to Support about your subdomain. It's all setup and you will be able to publish your site to the address. All the details are on the email.

Hi Marije,

Thanks for setting up the subdomain. One hurdle down, one still to go. I still can’t access the “publish my site” option. In “my site,” my yellow button says “update my site.” If I click on the down arrow next to it, I get several options but not “Use my domain.”

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

It looks like you are trying to publish the site that is already published to bendag.com to the new subdomain - is that right? Don't you want to publish it to a completely new site?

If not, and you want to publish it to bendag.com, here are the steps:
1. Login to your account on Yola.
2. On the My Sites page, scroll to the bottom and check the box next to "Enable Advanced Domain Settings".
3. Scroll back up to the top and click on the link "Advanced Domain Settings".
4. A new page will open, click on [Add a domain that I already own].
5. Add your subdomain (brian.bendag.com) and it should be included as a URL that your site is published to.

Test it by typing in your subdomain address into your browser.

I hope that helps! Please let me know if you would like me to do it for you.

Thanks, Marije, not we’ve got it! I initially published my website to bendag, then wanted to create two subdomains so that I could use one for my website and my wife could use the other for hers. I followed your instructions below, and it worked. COOL!!!!! Thanks, again.
