Google suggests using ALT tags on pages with pictures etc.,along with keywords, to help increase ranking. How do I add these?

Hi Karen

It is a good idea to ad ALT tags to your pictures. In SynthaSite you can do this from the Properties sidebar. Add your image widget and then look for the field in the Properties sidebar that says "Alternative Text" to add your ALT tags

Please get back to us if you have any difficulty with this.

Hi Karen, Another way to add an ALT tag is to click on the picture widget on your page, click 'Edit' on the top of the Widget, and in the 'Alternative Text' box enter the ALT tag text.

Hello ac gee,

Alt tags are a way to put a short description on images as traditionally images couldn't be interpreted for their meaning by the bots and by people who are visually impaired. The alt text describes the image and online readers are able to speak the alt tag.

Synthasite was the original name for Yola and was subsequently replaced.

Hello, ..for example if your picture was of some Nike Shoes and in the Alternative Text box you typed in the words Buy Nike Shoes Today, in would change the html code to read {img id="I33_img" src="resources/nikeshoes.png" alt="Buy Nike Shoes Today" style='width:183px; border:none;'/}

After the page is published, when someone holds the mouse over the image without clicking, the words 'Buy Nike Shoes Today' will show up.

Search engines bots can't view the image, just the text in the alt tag - in this example the search engine would then identify the image as a Buy Nike Shoes Today image.

For SEO, it is recommended that the ALT tag text be at least 3 words long with one of the 3 words being a keyword for that web page. It is also recommended that the file name of the image (in the above example nikeshoes.png) contain a keyword.

Your example 'Buy Nike Shoes Today' is a BAD alt tag.
It should describe the image or (if a link) what it is a link to.

That is also NOT what mouseover does; that's title text.
Alt text is for screenreaders. It's an accessibility measure, and using it for anything else is breaking best practice and disrespecting visually-impaired users.

Hello StopRuiningThings

Saying that using alt text for anything else than screenreading for visually-impaired users is not correct from our point of view. Please also see my comment to your other post on this thread.
