How do I alter the size of images once they have been blown up from a thumbnail?

I'm rebuilding my website, I have quite a few galleries, and have found that when clicking on the thumbnails the photos blow up to a size that don't fit completely within the computer screen/internet window.

When I edited my website before I used 'picnik' to alter the size of the images. However, I've found that when I resize with the new 'aviary' software it does not alter the size to which the thumbnails blow up into.

Any help greatly appreciated :-)

Hi julia,

if you can use another editor before uploading the images to your File Manager this will overcome the problem.

Gimp is a downloadable image editor program that's free and pixlr is an online facility that does the job well. There are a number of others as well.

Hello Julia

If you use the Picture Gallery Widget, the enlarged views that show up when clicking on a thumbnail image will always be shown in a standardized size, even if their true size is larger. The standardized size will never fill the complete screen and cannot be further enlarged. However, if the size of the image is smaller than the standarized size for the enlarged view, it will be shown in its true smaller size.

Thank you for the help, I think I've probably worded that wrong though. The problem I'm having is that the photos I am uploading are displaying at 4 times their original size when clicked on, I would like them to display at their original size, or a size that would fit on a computer screen. Thanks again

Hi Julia,

Can you provide a link to a page on your site where this is happening so we can take a look please?

Hi Laura

Here is the problem, with my new pinhole photo gallery.

http://themaddreamer.yolasite.com/pin...

Some of the photos are A4 and are showing up slightly bigger but some of them are literally quadrupling in size.

Many thanks

Hello Julia

I have checked the page of your website that you posted, and spot-checked some of the respective pictures in your Yola File Manager. When I preview e.g. your image "Castle4.jpg", I can see that its size is 624KB, and its dimensions are 1158 x 1127px. The other pictures are similar. Yola File Manager or Sitebuilder are not able to automatically change the dimensions of pictures you upload. Are you sure that the original versions of your pictures are smaller? If you store your original pictures on your computer, can you please check their dimensions by finding them in their folders? Viewing them with an Image Viewing Programme you have on your computer will not necessarily show you the true size, this can only be checked by looking at the file properties or something similar.

We'd also recommend to downsize pictures to between 20 and 100KB before uploading them to your site because larger pictures can cause your Sitebuilder and live site slow to load, which means that you could lose visitors.

Hi Stefan

Thanks for looking at this for me. As far as I can tell, because I scanned these photos in on a different computer (I usually upload digital photos from my laptop), they saved in a much larger size than anticipated. I'm now resized them into something resembling their original size and have a fully functioning gallery.

Thanks again :-)
