To change the width of the columns, click on the green center axis of the two column layout widget and drag it to resize.

Try this and get back to us if it isn't what you had in mind.

Unfortunately, the size of the single column is dependent on the size of the style you have selected. You cannot make this larger. Some styles offer wider editable content area. You can make use of the margins as JenC suggested but this will only result in shifting the Text Widget - not make it wider. Please keep in mind though by doing this, it may cause your visitors to have to scroll back and forth as the content will be pushed out of the content area which is the optimal viewing size.

You can also change the 'margins' of columns text boxes . simply select the column/text box and go to Properties on right, you will see left right margins and then put a number in ie 15 / -15 / +15 and do on right and left.
Is this what you were after????

This works for some widgets, but not an HTML one. I would like to see a Properties box be available for HTML.
