Hi, Geraldine

Have you purchased you own domain name or are you using a Yola domain name like:

Hi there Geraldine,

Are you wanting a free subdomain or are you wanting a sub-domain on your paid site?

To get a free subdomain you can click on the "publish my site" button and select the "Standard" (free) option. You will then be able to choose a free subdomain)

If you have bought a domain through Yola, you can create subdomains using the Advanced Domain Settings and setting up A Records, here's how:

1. Login to your Yola account and make sure you are on the "My Sites" page.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tick the box next to "Enable advanced domain settings".
3. You will be scrolled back up to the top, click on "Advanced domain settings".
4. To access the domain settings, click on [Details] next to the related domain.
5. To access the A Record, click on [Edit this?] next to DNS Entries.
6. To add an A Record, make sure that "A" is selected next to "Add a new DNS Record Type" and click on the "Add" button.
7. Under "Name" add the subdomain you would like to use (eg. group).
8. Under "Value" add Yola's IP address (
9. Your subdomain is then available as (for example).
10. You will be able to publish a new site to that subdomain by choosing "Use my Domain" when clicking on "Publish my Site".

For more information on accessing the DNS Settings on your domain, please view this tutorial: DNS for your Yola domain

Hope this helps.

Great info!

I have a paid domain through yola and would like to add a subdomain onto it, but I would like to use a different site builder...can I do that?

Yola's site builder is awesome but I want to try a few new things.

The site builder I would like to try is KompoZer...can I have a subdomain from a yola hosted website that utilizes KompoZer as the site builder?

Thank You!

Hi Blondie - we can give it a try and see if it works. Do you have the IP address that you need to use to point your subdomain to KompoZer?

Hello theblackrayquaza

Are you asking if you can create a free sub-domain even though you have bought a domain elsewhere? Are you pointing your top-level domain to Yola or are you wanting the subdomain to point to your top-level domain elsewhere? If you could give us some further clarification, then we can give you more specific answers.

Wow! Nevermind! I just worked out how to do it!
If you have the same problem as me:

" How do i make a subdomain on yola if i bought my domain on Limedomains. Using Yola"

Then Follow the steps:

1. Go to "Manage Account"
2. Go to "Domain Info"
3. Choose Domain
4. Click on "Complete DNS Management"
5. Add an "A" Record
6. Leave The Host As:
7. Point the IP address to Yola (
8. Go to Yola
9. Login
10. Create A New Site
11. Tick "Don't Choose Domain Yet"

Once you have your site done:

1. Click "Publish"/"Update"
2. Tick "I already have a domain"
3. Enter the domain you saved (
4. Done!
