You will receive notification by email from your payment gateway. It does require that you setup the email address that you wish to receive notification on. This is all part of the Store config setup and the details on your PayPal account or similar.
There is also a log kept within the store of products sold etc.
Finally you can configure your SMS service to send a text message to your phone.

Could there be any issues with this as I tried to 'buy' something on my website on a different computer with different email address details to check if it was working and I never received a confirmation email to my normal email that someone had bought something. However I did receive an email on the 'fake' account saying that I had purchased something from the website....
