Hi,

I'd like to link one of my menu links to another website; also open in a separate tab. Can I do it and if so, how do I do that?

Hello Mireille Pretorius,

You can do this by adding this snippet to your navigation. Most easily done by creating a page and call it anything. Then go Page > Page Manager and Edit that particular item.

Replace the page name with this: <a href="http://URL of the other website" target="_Blank">The name/title you wish to display on the navigation tab!</a>

You could further enhance this by adding to your Hover field the fact that this will link to an external site in a new tab.

Make sure that the code is complete because there may be no error checking on the code and if wrong or incomplete it could break your site irreparably. It's always safe to check such code on a trial site first and always check that the code is complete if you copy and paste, making sure that there are no missing opening or closing brackets.

For those of you who want to link a menu to an external website, and the link is too long, make use of Bitly, which can shorten your link: http://bitly.com.

How do I change the hyperlink of a page in the menu bar? I want the link to open a link to an external site, but there don't seem to be tools to do this.

I have followed the instructions to the letter but this does not seem to work for me.
I have typed the code exactly and the link name is displayed in the menu ok, but when clicked it adds the url of my website to the front of the redirect address, thus returning a 404 error as it is unable to find the page.
Example:
http://www.my website URL/%22http://URL I am trying to link to%22.php

Some have reported that this no longer works after a recent update by Yola?

PS: If you wish to display code on this forum you must wrap the code in tags < code> and < /code> (delete the space after the <). A summary of useable codes for the forum is given at the top of the: Reply to This Topic (some HTML allowed) boxes.

Hello Tina,

If you put the following code in an HTML widget, does it work: Replace. the XXXXX with the address of the site you are wanting to link to.

<href a="http://www.XXXXXX.com>Site Name</a>

It is possible to cause your menu link to redirect automatically to an external URL if you are prepared to use a bit of custom HTML.

Here's what you need to do:
  1. Create a new page with the name of the site you want to link to.

  2. Drag and drop a HTML Widget onto your page.

  3. Copy and paste the code below, into the HTML Editor:
    <script type='text/javascript'>if(!window.top.Yola){window.location='http://www.google.com'};</script>

  4. Change the URL, http://www.google.com in the code to the website to which you would like to redirect your page.

Please note: This code is used at your own risk, as it can result in your page not working correctly.
