How do I point one yola domain to another yola domain

I wish to point one yola domain to another so that when webname of the first one is clicked on it automatically goes to the second.

(nothing black hat about this, it's just that I want to re-build the first one and it's going to take a while so I'd prefer to redirect any traffic.)

I'm sure this has been asked / answered previously but I couldn't turn up a reply so I wondered what's the best way.

I've got this far:

Select domains from my main menu
Select advanced settings

What next? Do I alter something related to the DNS?

Any tips or suggestions or points to previous posts would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Charles,

This can be done easily by setting your canonical domain. https://www.yola.com/tutorials/articl...

Thanks for the reply Gop, the tutorial is clear and appears easy to follow, but I might still be stuck.

When I click on "Advanced settings", located to the right of my site's name I am only presented with the following 5 options:

- Set up email for your domain
- Set up name servers
- Change your DNS settings
- Transfer your domain away from Yola
- Edit your domain registration information

and not the option:

- Assign my domain name to a new site

Is their a change of title somewhere? I didn't want to just click around and hope for the best.

I could see in the Transfer domain menu a deselect option to unlock my site; do I need to do this first to permit the change or it this something different?

Many thanks

Hi Charles,

Wondering if we are on the same page?

Here's a screen shot of what should be presented after selecting "advanced Settings" to the right hand side of your site:

Are you seeing similar?

Ah ha! The mistake was with me, sorry for that.

I had selected 'Domains' and not 'My Yola' (which you had specified and I had missed)

I am now able to see the same page as your graphic shows, except for there being no line showing "add an existing domain", in case that's relevant.

However, on your graphic (and the page I see), there's no option to click on which says "Assign my domain name to a new site", so I guess I'm not quite there yet?

The only two options which I seem to see are:

- remove domain
- remove www prefix

I don't want to click remove domain if that's not the right thing to do so, working from your graphic, what would be the correct next step.

Thanks again Gop.

Thank you Charles for getting back.

I'm working with my account so there are a few assumptions I'm making here so please excuse.

Do you have a custom domain that you have purchased through Yola or maybe a custom domain that you have purchased through another domain reseller?

If not then maybe this option would not show?

The other thing that comes to mind is whether or not you have a Bronze, Silver or Gold Yola subscription which are paid for plans and separate to the domains. if not then I don't think that the option illustrated would show?

One more thing: Can you take a screen shot of the equivalent as above and post it here? This can be done by holding your SHIFT key down and pressing the prt scr button on your keyboard. Then go to your programs and select Paint or equivalent and Paste the captured image into that Paint screen. Save it with a name (any name) as a jpg file, and note the saving location. (the jpg file I think is an option if not the default bmp file is OK).

Next come back to the forum and in a new entry block you will see the icon of an image in the bottom right hand corner. Click this and it will ask you to browse for your image. Locate it from your remebered location and click upload and then submit.

Thanks for bearing with me Gop.

My account is a Yola Bronze, in case that's relevant, purchased via Yola itself via the UK GBBO arrangment.

Screen shot attached.

Thanks Charles,

To confirm: you want to build a new site and publish it as hypnotherapyinoundle.co.uk. You've stated that you anticipate this will take a reasonable length of time.

In the meantime you wish to direct your traffic to the original site?

If this is correct then I think your solution is very easy.

While you are creating your site there is no reason ( from a site creation perspective) to release the original domain until you are ready to publish your new site to this domain: tomorrow, next month or next year, doesn't matter..

While you are building this new site and you wish to see it's published look as you go then the easiest way is to publish it to a free yola subdomain.

At the end of the creation then you can unpublish your original site and re-publish your new site to your original domain and it's able to be manipulated during or after the process. There's nothing locking you in to any decision on publishing.

The site file is quite distinct to your domain. It's only when you publish a site to a domain that they become linked. It's coincidental that you have called your site file the same as your domain name. You could have called it my practice for example and then published it to hypnotherapyinoundle.co.uk with the identical result.

I hope I've got your objective clearly and if not please let me know.
