I emailed this question to Yola a week ago but have not received a reply. Can anyone help me figure out how to redirect my Yola site to another website? I am leaving on an extended trip to Africa and do not want people ordering my product during my absence. Thank you! Ramona

Hello Ramona,

There is another possibility that comes to mind to overcome this issue.

I'm not sure what you mean by "redirect my Yola site to another website". If you wish to remove your product pages from your site then you can do this by removing the pages from the menu and if any of those pages are also linked within your text then remove those links for the time you are away.

If you redirect your site to another domain you will lose all your site followers and you will drop off any ranking that you may have established. Plus without altering the page content you are in the same boat but under a different name. Basically you would need to start again once you return your site to its original domain. This probably isn't the best way forward.

If you wish to do this however you simply UNPUBLISH your site How to unpublish your site. Whether or not you then re-publish to another domain is simply a publish process ???.

Thanks for your reply! It's possible I'm not using the correct terminology with "redirect", but I want visitors to my Yola site to be automatically forwarded (pointed) to another retail site (my Etsy shop), where I can put my shop on vacation mode and visitors receive a nice message that I am away as well as the option to be notified when I return. I am also finding my Yola site to be much more work to edit and maintain, whereas my Etsy site (where 95% of my customers find me) is very easy in this regard. So this "redirection" may, in fact, be a long term solution beyond my trip to Africa. Ramona

Hi Ramona,

You can paste the following code into an HTML widget on the page that you would like to redirect.

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3"; URL="newsite.com">

"3" here stands for the number of seconds before redirect happens.
The newsite.com line is the URL that the page is to be redirected to.

Thanks Boomer. Unfortunately, it's not working. I put the code in an HTML Widget box at the bottom of my home page and I can tell that it's trying to redirect every three seconds, but it just reloads my home page. Any idea what's wrong? Thank you! Ramona

I found this on the Yola tutorials:

Should you still wish to use another sitebuilder and hosting provider we recommend pointing your Yola-purchased domain to another provide rather than transferring away. To do this you need to access your domain settings in My Yola and edit your DNS settings. Depending on the host you're moving to, you will either need to edit the nameservers or create an A record (which your new host should provide you with). Your domain will still be hosted with Yola and you will get a renewal reminder from us when your domain is up for renewal.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to edit the nameservers or create an A record. I sure wish someone from Yola would answer the phone or reply to my emailed question from last week.

Hi Ramona,

I was unable to locate a message from you with the email address you are using on the forum. Did you submit a request to support here using a different email address?

We provide steps on editing nameservers and creating A records here.

I'm getting really frustrated and would like it if someone at Yola could speak to me on the phone. I now cannot edit my site because of attempting to use the code from above. My page now reloads every three seconds, even during editing. I do not want to make any permanent changes, which it appears may happen if I edit the DNS settings. I thought this would be an easy thing to do, since I know multiple people selling things on Etsy who have done the same with their websites.

Hi Ramona,

To escape the redirect, please use FireFox and change the setting as follows:

Tools → Options → Advanced

set " Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

This will allow you to edit the existing code in the Sitebuilder by preventing the redirect script. You need to do this before accessing your site in the Sitebuilder.

Then follow Boomer's instruction below

Once completed you can remove the "warn me....." setting if you wish. This setting only affects your browser and has no effect on viewers of your site.

Hi Ramona, my apologies, the code I posted up above is incorrect. The correct code is as follows:

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3; URL=newsite.com">

Note that the 4th and 5th "Quotes" have been removed. I have tested it and it now works. Also note that this code will redirect when working in the Sitebuilder, so it is better to start off with a higher number of seconds while testing.

I am sorry for giving you the runaround.

Whew - it's working! Thank you so much for revising the code Boomer. And that's great to know I can escape the redirect when I need to use sitebuilder again - much appreciated GOP. Now I can enjoy my time in Africa without worrying about this. Thanks again. Ramona

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
can I redirect to another site from a yolafree site?.

I'd like to be able to have my yolafree site redirect automatically to another site upon entry. Is this possible?

Hi Tabatha,

You can do this with a free Yola site. Please read up on this thread for instructions but remember to use the last code snippet that I posted.

Boomer, I used your code and now get a 404 error. Any suggestions?

Hi Josh,

A 404 error means the webpage you are trying to redirect to cannot be found (it doesn't exist). Please test the page you are redirecting to in your browser first, and then replace the "newsite.com" (in the code above) with the working URL.
