Hi Katie

I can see you are in a hurry for an answer. But I would have to do some research on this and get back to you. We do have video widgets in the video folder in SynthaSite that allow you to add Youtube, Google Video and Metacafe videos to your site. But people have to click on them in order for them to play.

What I would ask you to do is to think about someone's reaction when they come to your site and a video starts playing automatically and they don't expect it. I know when I go to a site that does that I get startled. I leave it as fast as I can because I get funny looks from the people around me because my computer suddenly got noisy and broke the silence! Web designers recommend that you give people a choice about whether to play your videos or listen to your music.

This is just something to think about. If you feel that a video that plays automatically when someone comes to your site is a good idea for what you have in mind, let me know and I will see if there is something I can figure out.

Best wishes
Monique

Hi Katie,

Sometimes we sleep :)

We are still working on finding an answer to your question. But like Monique said, I really think you should give people the choice of whether the video plays or not.

We will get back to you when we have an answer.

Can you give me some time to research this? I think 24 hours for a question that involves a bit of extra digging is reasonable. Is that ok with you?

Hi Katie

Here is what I have been able to find out so far. You can get a Youtube video to play automatically when someone opens your site if you edit the code from Youtube. So this is going to be a little tricky. It is quite hard to explain here because I need to show you what parts of the code to edit.

In SynthaSite you would:
1) Drag and drop an HTML widget onto your page
2) Delete the default text in the white dialog box and then paste your code
3) Edit the code to make the video play automatically.

Here is a link to an article that explains how you need to edit the code
http://www.bloggeraz.com/youtube-vide...

If you can't work it out from those instructions, please email me at support@synthasite.com and I will talk you through the steps.

This might not be perfect for what you wanted, but it was the closest thing I could come up with.

Cheers
Monique

Here is a screenshot that shows you where to get the code from in Youtube. It in the window right below the word "Embed:
