I published a temporary version of my website but am unable to get it to load so that I can make changes to it to reflect the fact that I am in business as my new website still isn't ready. I have made changes to the original site design, but these have not been published. Can I do this please?

Hello,
It sounds to me like you are not able to load your site in the Sitebuilder. If that is the case, have you tried clearing your cache or trying a different browser. Can you tell us what you have tried thus far.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Hi debbym,

The question has been marked as answered, to indicate that we have responded to your initial question.

I understand that you have followed the tutorials and troubleshooting steps. I am unsure as to whether you are having a problem loading your site in the Sitebuilder, or whether the published website is not loading?

If you could let us know whether you are seeing any error messages, it will be helpful. Lastly, if you're comfortable sharing your site's address, you're welcome to do so, as this will also be helpful.

Hi Justine
I have emailed you a response to this. I am very confused as to whether I should be replying to emails or replying to you comment. However, here is what I wrote in my email

Hello Justine
I thought I had shared it with you but here it is
http://www.stanleyhousesecretary.co.uk/. I can't load it into sitebuilder to make changes.

From the dashboard, I try to load it and I get taken to the unpublished changes. I click on the link at the top of the page next to where it says you're changes are not yet published to bring up the original website. It just comes up as if I had clicked on a link when I had googled it.

No error messages, nothing.

Or is it something I can't do? Surely you must be able to make changes to a published website?

thanks

Hi debbym,

You are welcome to reply on the forum, or via email but you are correct in saying that it is a little confusing. I will be happy to respond to your support request as well - could you let me know what the subject line of your support request was? This will help me find it.

From what I understand, you are able to enter the Sitebuilder, and have been able to edit your site. You mentioned that you're clicking on the link underneath the publishing status message. Clicking on this link will take you to the currently published version of your site.

In order to make your changes live, you need to click on the green "Publish to the web" button. You'll see the message change to "Your site is now live". Then, when you click on the link underneath the message, you will see the updated website that reflects the current changes.

Please let me know if this helps fix the problem!

No I dont want to do this Justine. I'm obviously not making myself clear and I am sorry.

What I want to do is open the site that I have published so that I can write on it something to the effect that I have been updating the site and it will be ready soon LOL. I cannot open the published website.

I have been trying out different layouts etc to the website but these have not been published and should, as far as I understand it, not be applied yet to the website which is published. I just want to open the published website so that I can make changes to it.

Hi debbym,

I understand your frustration, and I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I can see that you have two sites in your account - one that has been published, and one that has not been published.

You mentioned that you are unable to open the site that is already published. Is the problem you are experiencing that you are not able to locate this site in My Yola? We recently released an updated My Yola dashboard and in your My Yola account you will see a thumbnail image of your site. Just to the top-right of that is a drop down menu titled "Select Site."

When you click the arrow on this menu you will be able to select the website you wish to edit. This website's thumbnail will then appear, you can click on it and the Sitebuilder, with that site in it, will open.

Thank you but I know about the dashboard

I have two sites - agreed.

StanleyHouseSecretary.co.uk - this is published.

I select Stanley House Secretary in my dashboard but I get a thumbnail of the unpublished website for stanleyhousesecretary.co.uk not the published website with the 3 different coloured boxes on and is the one that will not load and is the one that I want to make changes to.

I have a second site that I am working on called viVA La PA. I can see this in my thumbnails and can work on it.

thanks

Hi Debby,

I have done a bit of exploring and need to ask - did you make amendments to your site, Stanley House Secretary? Test out a new style at all?

I do see that the site published online is the same on that is displaying in your MyYola however they look entirely different because changes have been made to your site in the sitebuilder, but have not been published online.

In order to get back to the three colored boxes, as displayed on your published site, I do believe you will need to re-add them to your site.

I see that you had a few different sites on your account and had deleted them. I did check to see if you had mistakenly deleted a site, however, that was not the case.

Please can I have some help? Brinna I replied to this by email as I was asked to. The question is not answered. I would appreciate a reply. If I havent published my changes, why can I not open my published site? Is this or is it not possible? Thanks.

Hello debbym,

Brianna is correct. What you have somehow done was completely revamped your Stanley House Secretary site in your Sitebuilder and have not yet published it. This is why your published site looks so different from what you're currently seeing. Unfortunately, there is not a way to undo those changes you have made. If you wish for your published site to be the same in your Sitebuilder, you will need to manually recreate your site. I'm sorry that I don't have better news for you.

I have obviously completely misunderstood the tutorials and the yolatv.

My understanding was that you could make changes to the look of your site after you had published it by bringing it back into the sitebuilder to update it, change its name etc.

There isn't a smiley comment for how this makes me feel.

Hi debbym

You are correct in saying that you are able to make changes after you publish your site. However, if you change your site completely to a different one, you will lose the original site altogether.

I see that your published site look like this:

Did you change this site's style template and content after you published it? If you have, it is why you are not able to see the thumbnail of the one that is now published.

Does that make sense? Sorry if this is all a bit confusing. We are trying to establish what has happened to your original (published) site.

Thank you for working with us to resolve the issue.

Hi Nazalie

I am replying through the site as Sanja says my emails are not getting through.

Yes I changed the content and the template after I had published the site but only in in Sitebuilder. I thought they were completely disconnected - because I didn't realise that it would affect the published site as long as I didn't publish the changes. I thought they would stay as a draft and I would be able to retrieve the published website in it's original format.

So my understanding is that if you want to make an update to your site, you have to create a copy of the site, make your amendments to the copy and then unpublish the original site and publish the second site which is a copy of the original every time you need to make an update to your news or change prices for your services, etc? I obviously missed this in the tutorials and YolaTV - perhaps you could point me to the spot where it is and I will read/watch it more carefully.

I was merrily enhancing and saving the changes to the original published site BUT ONLY in Sitebuilder without publishing them so that I could preview them, as instructed on screen if you want to move to another page, because I thought it was a draft until it was published and I certainly wouldn't have done it if I thought it would destroy the published site. Perhaps your developers might consider putting a 'health warning' to advise you that if you change the layout or template or make any changes to your published site EVEN if you don't publish them, then you will loose the ability to go back to the original.

It's fairly obvious that I put that site up as a stop gap until I had completed my full website - I needed to get a presence on the web. However, I'll unpublish it now and start again - it's been there so long that my company name has changed to viVA La PA. Luckily I've been working on another site for that one.

I unpublished and deleted the website last week as I was unable to access it.

Now I urgently need to stop it coming up in searches via Google etc. I have gone back through 'topics' and note that this can take a while but it is deeply embarrassing for me to have the site published as this is no longer trading.

Could you possibly check for me please what the status is? I understand that from previous topics you can do this.

Hi debbym

The way in which I check this is to put your domain, stanleyhousesecretary.co.uk, into a web search engine - in this case I used Google.

I see that your site is still coming up in search results. As you know, this can take a few weeks and unfortunately it is out of our control. It will depend on how often the search engine crawlers visit your site. As soon as this happens, the changes will reflect in search engine results.

Thank you Nazlie - I was aware of this as you rightly say. becasue I found through my constant research for answers in the Topics that a similar query came up which you answered six months ago in exactly the same way. In that response, however, you also said that you could check the status it for the gentleman - I was hoping that you might be able to do the same for me.

I would have changed it in sitebuilder rather than deleting or unpublishing it but unfortunately I was unable to access it in sitebuilder etc etc etc

For me, like as the previous enquirer, this could have serious implications.
