I'm having serious trouble with selecting a theme for my website . I find it hard to write about a definite theme without straying and putting unrelated articles on my site . I run out of stuff to write about quick , unless I add unrelated articles . Can someone please explain website content as it relates to themes . Why is it so important to stick to your website theme/topic ? Comments and suggestions on the process of themes greatly appreciated . Thanks !

Think of your site like a book, you can go wherever you like with the story but you need to keep the reader involved.

A good start, middle and end is always nice too. :)

You can deviate away from your theme as long as its relevant - what i always try to do is think about how I surf the web, how i like things to be and work from there.

If you feel your ideas are to far apart for users to be interested in both subjects within 1 site then just make 2 sites - subdomains are free with Yola so go nuts.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Bob

This is an extremely relevant question, and Lee has given you some great advice.

The most important thing to understand is the power of niche websites. The broader your site is, the more competition you face, and the harder it is to keep your audience.

Select something as narrow as possible, that you are an expert on, and write about this. Everyone is an expert on something, but some people haven't realized it yet!

For example a "Pets" website is way too broad. A good niche is a website devoted to tank maintenance for tropical fish.

You have a much better chance of ranking highly in the search engines if you have focused keywords related to a niche topic than if you go too broad.

You can always create a portal site, that links to a collection of related, smaller sites, as Lee suggests.

My tip is to start one, very narrow site, do it well and then branch out and add others if you wish.

I think Monique meant 15 July, Bob.
She's a very busy lady and can be forgiven for a few oopsies ;-)

Oh dear. Busy and living in the past it seems! Definitely 15 July, not June!
