Hi. According to Woorank.com I have duplicate content even if I set my preferred domain on Google. Here is the message: "Be careful! Your website without www doesn't redirect to www (or the opposite). It's duplicate content"

On Google Webmaster Forum they explained me that the problem in question is not with Google Search Engine (where I correctly set a preferred domain)but with all the other search engines.

Now, they explained me that I need to implement a 301 redirect to my preferred version ( which is www.scarpe-da-calcio.com). How can I do that?

Also, for which pages do I need to do a 301 redirect?

Any explanation would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Hi Francesco,

If you would like your site's address to redirect to another address, you can do this by accessing your Domain settings. We have a tutorial that explains how to do this: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article....

Remember, you would need to make sure that any externally purchased domains are pointing to Yola before you can do this.

If you are trying to add a 301 redirect for a specific page on your site, unfortunately we do not have a feature on Yola that you can use to do this. An alternative would be to create that page, make sure it's not included in the menu and then add a snippet of HTML that will redirect your visitors to another page. This link will explain how to do that: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article....

I hope that helps!

Hi Justine.
Thanks for your email.

However, I am not 100% sure that the articles you suggested me are applicable to this issue.

All I want to do is make sure that my site www.scarpe-da-calcio.com redirects to http://scarpe-da-calcio.com and viceversa, in order not to be penalized by search engines for duplicate content.

Could you please confirm these are the procedures to follow to fix my problem?

Thanks again for your time.
Best regards

Hello Francesco,

As far as I can see, you have selected to have www as your primary domain. If you'd rather have a non-www as your primary, you can easily change this. On your "My Yola" page, click on the "advanced settings" next to the site. At the bottom of this page, you'll see the option to choose if you want to have the www displayed or not.

There will not be any penalization as you do not have 2 sites with the same content. Instead, what you have is a single site with a domain name that can be reached using either www or non-www.

I hope that clears it up!

Yola don't offer a 301 redirect except internally.

You will need to either point your domain to another registrar or transfer your domain way from Yola as you can't migrate your site. This will probably cause a hiccup in your ranking because the page types will change and the content will change marginally. You will regain it fairly quickly though if you stick essentially with the content you have.

A Javascript redirect is considered a 301 but it may have a penalty associated with it these days. You would need to get advice on this if you wish to consider it as an option. I don't know where that's at these days.

A meta re-direct (meta refresh) is another option but may also have penalties I understand unless you advise people of the fact that they are being re-directed to another site. <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url={NEW PAGE URL}" />
This shouldn't be used for a permanent re-direct
