How to make text single-spaced?

How can I change text from double-spacing to single-spacing? When I'm typing in the text widget, I sometimes get one and sometimes the other. It often seems entirely random. Usually I want the text to be single-spaced (as the lines in this question are), but often it appears double-spaced, i.e., with a blank line in between each line of text. How can I remove that line and make the text appear single-spaced? Alternatively, how can I make single-spaced text appear double-spaced?

Looking over the "suggested answers" to this question, I see that it has been raised in the past, although quite a while ago. It seems to me that I should not have to change to HTML in order to type single-spaced text. I'm using the text widget. I'm using the Dirtylicious template - but it doesn't seem to matter which template I'm using because I've run into the same problem on my other sites. Finally, I'm using the most recent version of Firefox.

I just tried the HTML feature in the text widget, and voila! I can now change the spacing easily. I never understood that feature before - very cool.

Glad you got the look you wanted Keara!

For other users who may see this though, I just wanted to add that you can also hit the Shift-Enter keys together (Firefox and Internet Explorer) or Ctrl-Enter (Safari) when you want to go to the next single line.

hmm.. I just tried Ctrl-Enter and it worked for me in Safari. I wonder if it has to do with your version of Safari or Flash?

I just updated both safari and flash--it's hard to keep up! But Ctrl-enter, cmd-enter and various combinations still don't work.

Neither of these methods have helped me.
Why is this not on the edit bar?

I can only get double spaced, which is a very silly default.
And I should not have to mess with HTML to do this.

I am often frustrated by this site, which I paid for.
