Clearing your cache may be the best thing to make it all run faster....I would bet though many do not do that as well as they think...Windows does a horrible job of this on IE unless you know how to really get in there and clear it out...I prefer to use a program like CCleaner to do this and it works great for me...It also clears all browsers you have on your system...For those that use IE and prefer to use Windows internet options to do this (only clears IE) just go to control panel and open internet options...On internet properties make sure you are on the General tab....Most click delete where you see browser history...This does a horrible job and can leave thousands of files untouched...Instead of delete click settings right next to it....In the next window that comes up click view files...where you see the files come up to the right highlight the first file and then hit "ctrl" "a" on your keyboard to select all.....Then on your keyboard hit delete and shift keys at the same time...then click yes.

Good advice John.

A dirty cache and stored files can prevent lots of things happening and also if you simply do the first step you may have some improvement but it will only be for a short time.

When you are doing this sort of work the file areas fill exceptionally quickly.

Run CC as much as twice a week if you're doing lots of browsing and file downloads. Also after downloading programs there is a lot of stuff left behind after the auto clean up.

Similarly after you delete a program from within windows there are lots of orphans hanging about. Typical frequent cleans with CC improve performance by 3% and if it's infrequent I have noticed whopping 12 to 20% improvements in performance

What I really love best in CCleaner is being able to quickly check and delete sneaky companies that put their crap in my start up menu....MAJOR companies are the worst about this....All your ram being used when not needed is maybe the biggest single thing to slow your computer.

I have done well using this free uninstaller...it will chase down orphans for you....Here is the company line.....Revo Uninstaller is a freeware innovative uninstall utility much faster than Windows Add/Remove applet. With its advanced and fast algorithm, Revo Uninstaller scans before and after you uninstall an application. After the program's regular uninstaller runs, you can remove additional unnecessary files, folders and registry keys that are usually left over on your computer. Even if you have a broken installation, Revo Uninstaller scans for an application's data on your hard disk drives and in the Windows registry and shows all found files, folders and registry items so you can delete them....I like to do my downloads from cnet.com as they test for spyware etc before they put it on their site...you can look up revo uninstall from there if you are interested.

If you want Yola to run extra fast - move to England - its as fast as lightening here.

This recommendation is only for advanced users - the best way to speed up your internet connection is to turn off your security - go ahead and turn off the virus protection , turn off the spyware, turn off that phishing thing, window updates - OFF - everything off .

If your computer dies as a result don't blame me.

Also check out a little program called Dr TCP - that works well on slower connections.

I stopped using all the so called top line security software and use some less cumbersome free software and have no problems....I have had a virus hit me twice in 12 year on the web and both times I was using top of the line protection....They can keep it.

me too - Norton is a joke in my opinion, i was trying for over an hour to speed up a friends PC adding TCP stack tweaks - after turning off norton it went like a rocket - i use 'Your Uninstaller' to clear unwanted files - also from download.com - i might have a little revo test, but they sound like they do the same thing

CNET used to have great extended tutorials on speeding up your PC. Maybe worthwhile revisiting?
