How to publish with already owned domain when it no longer offers you the option to do so?

I have searched for how to use my already purchased domain to use with my yola site. A friend of mine has done this many times. I followed the directions and changed the DNS at godaddy to point to yola but when I go to publish it I DO NOT get the option to select an already owned domain. I only get the options to buy a domain or to use the free yola subdomain. I then unpublished my domain thinking if I started it over I'd get that choice but I didn't.

Has something changed recently? I have only owned this domain a few days. However, my friend did this on her yola sites creating them as a yola subdomain and then connecting them to already owned godaddy domains that she just purchased with no problem.

What has changed? How can I use my already owned domain name with my yola site now?

Thanks

If you are a basic Yola user, you will not be able to use your own domain name. You can only use your own domain name if you have Yola Silver or Yola Premium.

Sorry that I do not have better news. This change was announced by the Yola team recently, and I believe on this forum too.

You can transfer the domain name but this costs money, but it is cheaper than Yola Silver. Link to the tutorial: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article...

You could upgrade to Yola Silver and get many more features, for more information, visit: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/article...

This is very disappointing. I guess I will have to move my site to one of the other free offer sites where I can use my own domain name. My friend who recommended yola will be disappointed, too.

I am experiencing the same problem and i do have a yola silver account. Have tried to delete my cookies and cache but that didn't help. Any other advice will be much appreciated!

Hello Saskia,

You need to set up 2 A records to point to Yola's servers. One for the www and one for the non-www.

After successfully setting these it may then take several hours to propagate through the internet

Different registrars may have differing ways of doing this. What registrar have you bought your domain through?

Hello again Gop :)

Thanks for replying, I knew about the pointing my domain which I have done. Problem was that the option of "publish to a domain I already own" is not given if you've already published your site to a yola sub domain (for testing) first. However I unpublished my site and then was given the option. So all fixed :)

You beat me in replying before I could type I figured it out ;) Quick as always!

Cheers,
Saskia
