Hi sendrella33

Currently, it is not possible to upload templates. Sorry. I know that Yola is working hard to expand their template selection and allow for more customizations.

In the meantime, hopefully we can find a work around for you. If you select a template that allows for customized banners and backgrounds, you may be able to achieve a look that is similar. Please refer to the Yola Style Guide to see which template offers these options: http://www.yola.com/yola-style-guide

To further help customize your look, you could add your own menu style. Try selecting a template which has customized banner/background option as well as a horizontal menu layout. Then, you can "hide" the pages and in effect your menu will be gone. This is where you can add your own customized menu. For ideas of how to create your own customized menu - one place you could go to is the Yola Code Site - http://yolacodes.yolasite.com Please be sure to read the rules first before grabbing the codes.

If you need ideas, please check out http://forsite.synthasite.com - this features people's sites and what they've accomplished with Yola! If you want, you can look at my two sites as well for ideas - http://littleus.yolasite.com or http://dejavuapparel.yolasite.com

We can help you along the way. Just ask away!

if I have a website template from another site, can it be used on Yola or must I use one of Yola's templates?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Using my own Website Template.

I donot wish to use a Yola Template as I already have my own css.
My question : I want to start using blank template. How do i do it if I have already chosen a free template
2.Will blank template also have a yola link?
3.I wish to introduce a bit-of-xaml into my pages(silverlight)...Would it be supported?

Hi Uday,

There are a few options if you would like a "blank" style and the styles with a plain white with background color/image options are CleanSlate, BareNecessities, NoFrills, SqueakyClean.

The blank style will have a link and you can remove the Yola Link if you upgrade to Yola Silver: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/....

Could you let us know what you are trying to do with adding xaml to your site? I don't think it will work, but perhaps we have an alternative suggestion for you.

Hi Uday - you should be able to embed Silverlight onto your site by using the HTML widget: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/.... I'm not 100% sure if it will work, but feel free to give it a try and let us know. I would recommend that you try it out on a test page first though...

No offense but it's been over 3 yrs since you all were asked about integrating our own css template into Yola. Still noone has created anything to allow more customization on this host site. Its as if you upgrade but still look the same as the free members, as a few extra templates from Yola do not make the paid members any more creative. Please listen to your "current' customers & allow css coding & other functions that WE BUILD OURSELVES. Its not as if Yola has to work these codes... The members will if they so choose. Yola can not support a simple copy & paste. So, you need to get futher in depth on your widget tutorials so members feel they have some more freedom. Again, OVER 3 YRS SINCE ASKED ABOUT CSS. YOLA:/

Wow. I have never ever heard of that being done or happening Melinda. What made you think to go through that process?
I'm really very interested and would never have even considered what you have done. Please let me know when you publish it even as a trial I am extremely interested.
All I can say is well done. Please keep trying things and don't become frustrated when things don't work because there is always some solution to this work. You have made something work that I haven't seen before so it really proves that there are many ways to do something.
You will find that this community is very supportive and won't let you down. I think everyone here who contributes really wants to help their fellows succeed.

Yea I seen what you mean about the community after you commented back the 1st time. I didn't know to go ask on there. Went through you & seen all the questions & replies, nice! I looked at the community before but it looked pointless until I actually got inside through your profile.
After reading something, it seemed like there was no XHTML, CSS, or HTML5 templates to work. I actually thought of using the HTML widget after a Yola tutorial. However, it didn't work but I didn't delete the widget, just backspaced the code on my homepage then immediately went to see if I could copy & paste the template code to css but it was already there. So I think you HAVE to add the HTML widget before even using the CSS page manager for certain things? For sure with HTML templates;) Makes sense. But I assure you, purely accidental through trying again to dig deeper like you suggested to others:) Also, I tried 3 free templates through CSS page manager as copy & paste. No luck until that widget was added to my homepage. Erased & tried another template & it worked the same way. Thanks again Gop, enjoy your comments, questions, & replies to the community! Although a lot of what you say is over my head, I do actually 'get' what you're suggesting, so you are helpful:)
ps. Now, I'm going to try to add a sparkly welcome icon, again;)
*Any links for customization or ways to work your page creatively, heck... I don't even know what to ask but you'll know what I mean by saying, "Any tips, tutorials, ext you have will be greatly appreciated". I do not know much about coding or building a site but I love science & reading. So, the concepts behind what someone as technical as you says is very beneficial:)

I think the best inspiration for layout design comes from looking at websites. Yola have a gallery of sites that have been judged as fantastic so have a scan of those.

Tips on customisation usually offered when you come up against a need and want a specific solution. There are websites that specifically focus on CSS tricks and the like and these can easily be found on Google. Happy to help you with that if you need.

There are a number of basic resources that are very helpful if you want to delve into HTML and the most authoritative would be http://w3schools.com. This is a well constructed learning resource and has ways of letting you experiment with code on their site to re-enforce the learning at the same time.

Thank YOU so much, Gop!! I dig through the web but specifics on websites & such is something I end up wasting time reading the wrong info. I will most definately show you my site when finished/prior to publishing so you can tell me what you think. Just know I am the type who is living on coffee & patiently making sure its what I want;) I've had Yola since Dec, still unpublished if that tells you much. lol! But publishing before spring sessions was my goal.
