Hello silent sea,

There is a workaround for this.

Yola don't gazette visitors to your site but there really is an easy fix.

If you register with http://getclicky.com which is an "analytics program" and is free, there they keep your visitors IP addresses stored. You can simply copy and paste if you would like to use this data in any other application.

Clicky is similar to Google Analytics except that Google won't make available the IP addresses of visitors to your site. This reflects their commitment to privacy.

I had a very interesting use of this recently where another party ripped off many pages of my site. I was able to locate the web-master and have them remove the material all because I had easy access to their IP address through Clicky.

Hi Silent Sea, Keep in mind that most people have non static IP's which are issued by their ISP once every 1 or 3 days - if you have my routers external IP today that wont be my IP address in a few days time. The knowledge of IP's only becomes useful in a situation like what Peter mentions above. 9 times out of 10 its just a useless number, you’re better off worrying about were your customers live in the world and marketing that information accordingly.

Lee.

That's very true. An IP per se doesn't really identify the user it does give you a traceable reference point which as Lee mentioned appropriate for some applications.

There are very few DDNS: IP's out there which will lock a user to an IP. There's no guarantee that an IP will even locate a region in any country.

At the same time many forums will ban IP's and I don't know how this works but is certainly effective against the novice user.

i think it has many aspects to being sure that it's correct.
First of all you need to review daily.
Then you need to find out what the distribution of true demographics is vs the reported.

For here. I can't say where a connection is coming from if the Clicky tells me bangkok. I think I can be confident if it tells me anywhere else.

You cannot find the pin point location of an IP address. You can find only the basic geographical location like country, state, zone, pin code, etc., through any IP lookup website like http://www.ip-details.com/ .Good luck.

Apologies silent sea,

i was off on something else and completely missed your request on setting the time to Pakistan Time. I'll check now but I think i remember a facility within clicky to be able to change your times.

OK got it.

Select preferences on the first logged in page. You will see the time zone options there in the column. Just make your selection and that's it. Now adjusted to Pakistan Time.

I really hope you can get what you need from this or some other easy source. There's a lot of power in it but certainly not infallible.

May I say something? The thought of spying on other users makes me feel uncomfortable. Not for any other reason than I don't want to be, I haven't been asked and i would probably be annoyed if someone told me that they had been deliberately tracing me through. It's something to consider as I really think that would be a lot of users response.

Regional statistics, rates of viewers or seeing if there's an interest in your site from a certain area at a certain time are all good questions and fun challenges. A lot can be learned. Take it down to guessing that John Smith was viewing at 11:57 on Thursday again at 15:00 on Friday. Not so nice. It's simply voyeurism.

Hello Silent Sea,

Pakistan's time zone is GMT+5. If you scroll down below Afghanistan you will see this option. Pakistan isn't mentioned specifically but you can still select the time zone.

Good luck with this.
