Struggling with HTML widget

I am using Google Chrome browser.
When I click to add the HTML widget, the HTML box appears but does not allow me to paste code into it (that I copied from another site that provided the HTML). I AM able to manually type in the whole code (annoying and frustrating to do it letter by letter!) but then when I save, the widget doesn't seem to work... it loads nothing, and when I preview my page, there is nothing shown either.
Please advise.

Thank you.

FYI, I just tried to add an HTML widget using Internet Explorer, and had the same issue.

Have you tried the Paste button, instead of Control/V for pasting? I've noticed the same thing but this works for me.

Just tried using the Paste from the right-click button on the mouse. Nope, that didn't work either.

I meant using the Paste button at the top of the page.

Hello DebbyG

The keyboard shortcut to paste code copied doesn't work in the HTML Widget, you must use the right mouse click method. Strange that this doesn't work on your end either. There is currently no known bug on the HTML Widget, and I use it every day for copy/pasting a lot without problems.

You can try the general trouble-shooting steps such as clearing your browser's cache and cookies, and try on a different computer if you have tried a different browser.

If none of these options solve the problem, we'd need to investigate on your specific account. Can you please provide your URL or login e-mail (not your password)?

Have you tried Edit/Paste yet?
This is the only one that works for me occasionally - not sure why.
Good luck Debby.

I'm sorry, I don't see any buttons at the top of the page, "Paste" or otherwise. When I am in the HTML widget, it appears as a popup box on the page and there are no other options available other than the Alignment, cancel, and the Save button.
Can you explain please?
I'd really prefer not having to go through and delete my entire cookies to solve this issue -- I keep much information stored on my settings for websites.

Also, even if I DID see a Paste button, I don't think this would solve my issue, since even when I manually type in the entire code, when I click "save", and then save/ preview the page, nothing has changed. No badge appearing where it should have been.

Stefan - my website URL is
www.homeruncakes.com

I'm trying to add a badge from mywedding.com

But I've recently tried adding other HTML as well, and I've had the same issue. If you see the "Wedding Wire Bride's Choice Awards" badge on my page, I tried to add it using the HTML widget, but it didn't work, so I uploaded the image separately and then linked it.
The new badge I'm currently trying to add is very similar. Unlike the last few times I've been unsuccessful in using the widget, I just am finally frustrated enough to write to see about resolving this.

I just manually went through and entered the badge script into the HTML widget again.

saved the information
then saved and previewed my page.

Still nothing.

The HTML widget box is still there on my build page.I clicked "edit" and the script text is still there.

But when I preview the page, it's not there. Not even apparently any line of space indicating there is a widget there at all.

And this is not unique to this particular script, so I know it's not just a bad script. This is the same issue I've had with other attempts to add HTML recently.

Oh, and I also went into the browser settings and found copy/paste/cut buttons there. Doing that had no action whatsoever. (That's when I decided to go through and attempt to manually type the script out again, as I've stated above.)

Hi Debby,

I added a page titled "test-page" to your website, dragged over an HTML widget and added some sample HTML. I added the code twice, once using the "Ctrl-V" shortcut on my keyboard and once using the right click feature on my mouse. I was able to save both of them without issue and the HTML rendered properly. I saved these samples, but they are not in your navigation menu and are not published. Once you have reviewed it, you can delete it.

This does indicate that the problem is local to your browser or system set up. If you'd like to rule out the HTML you are using, please share it here and I can test adding it to your Sitebuilder as well. If you'd like me to do this, please post your code wrapped in code tags.

I'm not sure why the code didn't appear in my comment above. Man, this is making me feel like a complete idiot. I'm a former technical writer for goodness sake.. this stuff doesn't usually frustrate me!

Here, let's try again: CODE HERE, without parentheses: ((()))))

Ugh, seriously? Can anyone see the code I typed above, or is it just appearing like blank closed parentheses?

Place it between these HTML tags:

By-the-by, I meant the Edit button (right at the top of the page) which has a drop-down Paste function. This has worked for me when all else failed, for whatever reason.

Sorry this is late in reply -- I have been swamped with orders lately and haven't had a chance to get back to site maintenance. Philip, I tried what you suggested above, and that didn't work either.

Here is the code I'm trying to paste:

<!--
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.mywedding.com/apps/social/...>
-->

Thanks for any help.

Okay, I've cleared my history and cookies, and even tried it in IE as well as Chrome. Still not working.
I also tried to add a new widget using the following script, and it didn't work either. (Same issue, nothing appears on the HTML box when I do a Paste or Ctrl-V. Just for curiosity, I then tried pasting the code into my browser's search box, and the whole thing appeared there just fine... so I'm not sure, if it is a local issue, why this issue is only happening on the Yola HTML widget.
Here is the second script I tried to add:

<!--
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="124" style="width:124px;"><tr><td width="130" style="padding:0 !important; margin:0 !important" valign="bottom"><a title="Weddings, Wedding Venues" href="http://www.weddingwire.com?utm_source..." style="padding:0 !important; margin:0 !important"><img border="0" src="http://static.weddingwire.com/static/..." alt="Weddings, Wedding Venues" style="display: block !important;padding:0 !important;border:none !important; margin:0 !important" /></a></td></tr><tr><td width="130" style="padding:0 !important; margin:0 !important" valign="top"><a href="http://www.weddingwire.com/brides-cho..." title="2012 Bride's Choice Awards | Best Wedding Photographers, Wedding Dresses, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Florists, Wedding Planners" style="padding:0 !important; margin:0 !important"><img border="0" src="http://static.weddingwire.com/static/..." alt="2012 Bride's Choice Awards | Best Wedding Photographers, Wedding Dresses, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Florists, Wedding Planners" style="border:none !important; display: block !important;padding:0 !important; margin:0 !important" /></a></td></tr></table>

Hi Debby,

This worked in Chrome for me. The code rendered as a vertical list.

May I ask if you have an add-on in Chrome that coincides with an add-on in IE? If so maybe try and remove it from one or the other and try it again in both browsers.
Don't forget to restart your browser if you do remove anything and as a double measure clear your cache (again)

Laura mentioned that she was able to add some code within an HTML widget on a test page within your site. have you tried this with your code and see if it works there? The really baffling thing is not seeing pasted code within the HTML modal box itself?

Yeah, I saw the item she added. When I tried to add my code into the same box, it still didn't show up (including the text not appearing in the HTML widget box).

I haven't added any add-ons on Chrome, I just have used what comes standard with the download.

In the meantime while we're working on this crazy issue, I've manually uploaded a static image of the "badge" and added link text to it, as a workaround to the HTML not working.

Applaud you for your patience Debby.

Have Yola Support followed up with you on this as I noticed that Stefan had asked for your login ID? (Which you have given). There are a couple of other recent idiosyncrasies happening around and they are being dealt with.

For what it's worth (nto much probably) but I added that second text into an HTML widget with Firefox browser and it came up as Gop said, a vertical list of links.

Hello Debbie

I must admit that looking at this thread and the suggestions, I'm running out of ideas what the issue could be. Let me try to add the code you have given above to your website from my side. Please let me know the name of your website, the page where you want it, and the exact spot where it should appear. This way we will at least sort out the current problem for you, and you won't need the workaround.

So if I sum up this thread correctly, your issue is: You can drag and drop an HTML Widget to your page, but when you add any code manually or by pasting and click on "Save", there is nothing on your page (not even in Preview), and when you click on "Edit" on the HTML Widget, your code is no longer shown in the HTML editor? And this happens in all browsers?

Please test the HTML Widget on your side again, drag and drop one on the test page and enter manually <p>This is a test.</p>
Click on "Save" at the bottom right of the HTML editor and check if you can see this sentence in your Sitebuilder view and in Preview. If that doesn't work, I will need to bring this to an engineer's attention in order to check your account. Thanks for your further patience and working through this with us!
