Does anyone here have a mobile phone etc. that has an internet connection?

I have added an alt tag to the flash code on the page below and i need to know if it has worked thorugh a browser that won't play flash.

Alternatively is there a way to force FF not to load flash so i can test it myself.

The flash with the new code is on the page http://hexham.info/butchers.php

It normally looks like this when flash is played.

If the test has worked it should have the text "hugh thompson butchers" and be a link to another page on my site.

Many thanks if you can help. Lee.

Hi Lee

I checked on my mobile device that runs Safari. I just get the "missing plugin" icon - no alt text. Sorry!

thanks anyway - that was your code you gave me last week..
If you or anyone else comes across code for alt tags with flash let me know. I am aware many people understand this issue and dont expect flash on a mobile but because the flash is an advert; i would like something from the advertiser to be displayed.

Also 1 last thing, do the google adverts show up? what format are google adverts? - i notice some are static and some are moving flash style.

many thanks for your help - Lee.

It seems to be working. I checked on my mobile device (iphone). I see the word "Butchers" twice: at the top of the page and then again in a green block under the listing for Hugh Thompson Butchers.

Yep lee. I think it's working.
I'm seeing a graphic with butchers and underneath a bordered table with HUGH THOMPSON BUTCHERS

so you viewed it from a non flash enabled device and you saw the butchers picture - (you should see it twice, its at the top of the page anyway - it should be under the listing) any chance of a screen shot?

No I can't see it twice only the static upper image. (part of).

The phone operates with Windows mobile OS. I've never captured a screen shot from it. Happy to do that f I can find out how.

Something got cut off from the earlier response as well.

Under the bordered table I mentioned, there is another heading. Green background with white font simply BUTCHERS

thats good news monique.

today ive been working all day on showing alternative content when the flash on my site will not play.

I have got the code down to this

<!--
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="728" height="90" id="myFlashContent"> <param name="movie" value="resources/swf/hughthompson0309.swf" />
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="resources/swf/hughthompson0309.swf" width="468" height="60">
<br><img src="resources/ADVERT FLASH1.gif" alt="Hugh Thompson Butchers" />
</object>
</object>
-->

"I think this is basically how to add an alt tag to flash :) excited."

the code shows this on firefox

this is firefox with flash disabled

and this in IE7 with flash disabled.

ANY HTML EXPERT WHO CAN HELP SORT OUT IE7 , PLEASE DO.

Iphone uses Safari without Flash. For me it looks like your second image (Firefox with Flash disabled) except that there is no space between the text box and the word "Butchers"
