I need to forward a Yola registered domain to my main web site hosted by another hosting provider. What do I need to do on the Yola "Your Domains" dashboard?

Hello Maurice,

Yola does not offer a permanent redirect for this purpose ie a 301 direct which is the best way to forward your domain.
You could use a meta-refresh HTML call but it's not favourably looked upon as you may only get about 50% of your ranking transferred along with this method. It may cause problems too with confusion by search engines.

Your other option is to transfer your domain to your other registrar but this wouldn't take your site along.

If in fact you mean you wish to point your domain to your other registrar then this can be done on your Yola DNS management facility. This can be affected by one of two ways: (Details of the requirement would be with your other host)

The addition of nameservers is the most common method
or setting up A records pointing to your other host's IP address. (This information would be with your other host).

Thanks for the quick response. I do want to point my domain currently registered by Yola to my other registrar (where the web site is now located). I will look into setting up A records to point to the host's IP address.

Cheers,

Maurice

Can I have more than one domain name pointed to the same IP? For example a .com and a .ca both pointing to the same IP address via A records? Any problem with doing this??

Yes you can as the IP address is simply the server address of the other hosting party's server. It's not specific for a site. There would be thousands and more sites pointed to a specific hosts IP

How long does it take for the change to take effect?

It is generally within a half hour but certainly published as taking up to 48 hours.
