I ́m being unable to use subdomains I defined in DNS ('Not Pointed' Message)

Hi,

I want to add a subdomain to one of my sites in my silver account. I own the domain to Yola.

Following instructions, I went to DOMAINS in MySites, and I expand the option "Change Your DNS Settings"

I added two entries:
A, *sky, 184.72.229.176
A, sky, 184.72.229.176

I saved this.

Then, I go to my site, and click the green option "Publishing to the web", and I selected "publishing settings". I have only an option: Publish Your Site. Here I selected the option "Yes, use a domain I already own".
I made click, then OK.
The message "Congratulations, your site is published to the web. deliciosa-mente.net"

The site now works with http://www.deliciosa-mente.net/

But I want the site to work with sky.deliciosa-mente.net.

Then, I went again to the green option "Publishing to the web", and I selected "publishing settings" again.

Inside "publishing settings", I choose the option "Edit Your Pointed Domain".

I made the entry sky.deliciosa-mente.net in ther text box, and I made a check using the Check Button.

I got the message "NOT POINTED".

As you can see, I ́m following the procedure as appear in help, but without any success.

Please help me to find what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you.

Hello. If you want sky.deliciosa-mente.net to go to the same website as deliciosa-mente.net, you will need to add it as another domain. Not edit your domain. because if you edit it, all it is editing it, and it wont be available at deliciosa-mente.net anymore. So, if you want it to be available at the sub domain, and the main domain, then, first, go to http://my.yola.com Click on "Domains" Now, under "Add a domain you own" click "Want to keep your domain registered with another registrar?" Then, type in th sub domain, and assign it to the site you want. Now, make sure, in the site builder, you have in your main URL (deliciosa-mente.net) for the domain. Now publish your website, and both the sub domain and the domain should go to your website.

If you want to just sue the sub domain, I don't think you have to put in *.sky I think all you have to do is add in sky for the name, and put Yola's ip for the Value. So try that. Delete the *.sky one and see if that works. I hope it works! :)

If I didn't understand your question, and didn't answer it right, please comment on this.

Thank you.

I just want to use a different subdomain with every site I build in yola, using the domain I bought to yola with my silver account, deliciosa-mente.net

For now, I want to have two sites of my 25 possible sites using a different subdomain for both sites.

list of sites I want at the moment are:

www.deliciosa-mente.net
sky.deliciosa-mente.net

I want every subdomain pointing to a different of my yola sites, and that is way I ́m using the DNS configuration section. to create the DNS "sky" entry.

I deleted the "*.sky" and left only thew "sky" as you recommended, and tried again with same result "Not Pointed".

It is very important to know if I can have subdomains with my domain in yola, one subdomain for every yola site I build in the future.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, I understand what you mean now. You want a sub domain for each site you create. Here are the records that you should have:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Type    Name    Value

A      (blank)    184.72.229.176

A      sky    184.72.229.176

A      www    184.72.229.176

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have these in (You seem to have the right ones in right now) you are going to have to wait for it to propagate through the internet. So, it wont be ready for about 24-48 hours (usually 2 hours) because of all the systems it has to go through. So, it's probably not going to work right away. If you wait, it may work.

By the way, I think the one with the * in it was to make it like this in the address bar: http://www.sky.deliciosa-mente.net/ But, I think you may want it like: http://sky.deliciosa-mente.net/ right? Thats how sub domains are supposed to be. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it is to prevent it from putting the www in front of the sub domain name. Maybe an employee from Yola will reply.

By the way, I saw that http://www.sky.deliciosa-mente.net/ goes to a Comcast new page or something. Did you know that?

ok. thank you Nathan, but I want to be more specific:
(Thank you Brianna for your attention, but please review this)

I have the appropriate records now in DNS, without the *sky, as Nathan recommend me

The problem is when I want to publish a specific site in an specific domain, because I do not find a list of sub-domains at the moment of the publishing.

I only have the option as shown in the image, and that do not allow me to specify a different subdomain that www, because www is a fixed parameter in the form (see image).

Maybe Yola only support the format www.sky.deliciosa-mente.net, but as Nathan says, a subdomain is supposed to be like

sky.deliciosa-mente.net,

and not like

www.sky.deliciosamente.net.

That is the reason initially I tried 2 records, sky, and *sky.

thank you very much for your patience and time Nathan.

(Problem not resolved yet).

Hi there Jorge,

I see your domain deliciosamente.net seems to not have A records assigned to it.

You need to re-add the Yola A records to your domain. (both www and non-www)

Once you have done this you need to publish your site to a .yolasite.com subdomain and then we can assign your www.sky.deliciosamente.net. subdomain to it.

Please let us know as soon as we have done it so we can proceed.

Many thanks for working with us on this.

Thank you for your attention Jeremy.

This is becoming weird. :S

I can see the two DNS records you can ́t , one blank, and the other, www. (both www and non-www)
please review for domain deliciosa-mente.net, and not for deliciosamente.net

Well, I ́ll reassemble my question, in a simple way in order to clean any confusion:

I want to use subdomains for different sites as:

www.deliciosa-mente.net
blog.deliciosa-mente.net
sky.deliciosa-mente.net

I do not want to use:

www.blog.deliciosa-mente.net
www.sky.deliciosa-mente.net

Is that possible to use the former?

If I finally have a concrete answer for this, I can proceed to the next question.
For now I want to divide the problem.

Thank you a lot to everybody for the patience.

Hi there Jorge.johnson,

I checked your domain deliciosa-mente.net and yes, it seems to be pointed correctly.

Yes, you should be able to use the non-www domains with your sites.

You would create them by creating A records for "blog" and "sky" pointing to Yola's IP (184.72.229.176 )

I have sent your request to our Engineering staff who will be able to assign our sub-domains to your sites once you have published them to .yolasite.com subdomains and they will publish them for you shortly.

I hope this helps.

Hi jeremy,
you are the man!!!!
thank you very much!!!
May be in a future, this task can be of the domain of the user to avoid dependencies with the Yola Tech Team.
I'm very happy now.

Hi Nathan,
I got this from Yola Team:
At the moment, only the Yola Team can assign subdomains for custom domains.

I think this is something that would be nice Yola fix in order to avoid user have dependencies from the Technical Yola Team.

I have the DNS records now, and posted the information Jeremy asked for. Jeremy is helping me with this.

I ́m waiting for confirmation of this Yola task in order to test the sites.

Summary:

1. Create the DNS records.
2. Publish the sites on yola subdomains.
3. Ask yola what yola subdomains I want for every DNS record.

I think the third step should be avoided, because every time I created a site, I depend on Yola Team, and Yola Team will have more work to do.

Thank you Nathan for being aware of.

Hi Jorge. I don't have a domain from Yola. I have a cz.cc one. That means I should be able to create it since I don't use the Yola DNS thing because I never registered a domain through Yola (yet). I should be able to make it work. I might email support@yola.com in a little bit and ask what to do if I have a third party register. Thanks for the information Jorge!

Hi Nathan,
If you're looking to set up subdomains for a domain not purchased from Yola, you would need to contact your domain registrar for information and assistance with this.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

The only problem is that when I contact them, they tell me I have to ask Yola. They obviously don't understand. And, they hardly ever respond back. And, I thought that all I have to do is set up 2 A records and point them to Yola, and then they both have "my" for the sub domain. Isn't this right? I already set up 2 for the main one, but, for the sub domain I set up 2 a records for that. And it still wont work.

Hi Nathan,
Your domain registrar's will need to help you with creating an A record for your domain. It would point to Yola's IP and it would be the name of your subdomain. So for example if you wanted the sub-domain of blog.domain.com you would need an A record of "blog" pointing to Yola's IP address. Once you have done this and published your site to a yolasite.com subdomain we can fix it for you.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Jeremy! But, I had already created an A record. Why would I need help from them? And, I don't think they will help. They aren't that good of support. Like , you guys at Yola are the best ever!!! But, it takes them like 20 days until I get a response. (Or much more days, sometimes months) Any ideas or suggestions? They only have a Help desk and no email support.

Hi there Nathan,
If you have a sub-domain set up and pointed to Yola then you can publish your site to a yolasite.com subdomain and then let us know and we can publish it to your custom subdomain for you. (we will need to know the name of your subdomain too)

Oh, so you want me to publish the website to a .yolasite.com domain and then, tell you the sub domain I want to set up? Ok, I actually have a .yolasite.com domain already for it, but right now, the primary domain is http://nathansmusicstudionow.tk The sub domain I want to set up is http://my.nathansmusicstudio.cz.cc Do I just use a CNAME record? And point it to http://nms-membersarea.yolasite.com?

Hi Nathan,
No, you only need an A record on your domain called "my" pointing to 184.72.229.176 - once you have that you can publish your site to a .yolasite.com subdomain and then we will publish it to your custom subodmain.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know.
