I Thought Yola Was Free?

I have two websites hosted on Yola and I was under the impression this was free of charge. However, I have received an email today to tell me that my 'Bronze' account expires in 90 days and asking me to pay to renew.

Am I missing something? I certainly didn't pay for this account to start with and my understanding was that I just needed to pay for my domains?

Anyone more in the know than myself? Would be grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks,

Mazz

Hello Mazz,

Yes you do have to pay for the hosting subscription of bronze or Silver if you prefer and the domain as a separate item.

This all changed in December last year. The domain(s) and the hosting plans are now separate charges and must be renewed independently. If you have auto-renewal then this is seamless I guess. if you wish to take manual control then you have to be aware that in fact there are two charges as I've mentioned.

There is no longer a free Bronze that would enable you to publish to a custom domain and you cannot publish a custom domain without a hosting plan.

It's good to see you here again and trust that your site is doing all the right things?

Ah, Thanks for the information Gop. I didn't realise that. Yes my sites are doing fine thanks.

I have a Bronze account on which I have two sites. It seems I'm allowed up to five so I'm guessing I only have to pay one charge for my two sites (other than the domain charges of course). Is this correct?

Many thanks,

Mazz

Yes that's correct Phil. 1 to 5 is an inclusive charge.

Hi Phil,

Just to add, we drastically reduced our domain pricing from $34.95 to $9.95 for .com domains in conjunction with this change in order to insure that owners of multiple domains not pay for hosting bundled with their domains multiple times. As an owner of multiple domains, this change was actually designed to reduce your overall expense.

Thanks Laura. I was just a bit confused because I had no idea that you'd started charging in December. I'm surprised I didn't receive an email to tell me? I missed the info somehow. Still, I'm all signed and paid up for another year now so all is well :-)
