I have been using my website for many things but I have noticed my most powerful traffic generating tool is my blog. Blogging has changed my website into a traffic generating machine. I must keep blogging.

I love Yola's Blog it is great. It is easy to use and I have been able to build a large following from this blog.

However as I am getting into blogging more I am learning more and there are some Key features that some of the other blogging hosts have that Yola does not. Please respond with agreement if there are any other serious bloggers out there. Also If you have any other ideas for blogs please post them here.

Idea # 1 for Yola Blog

The ability to put Adsense ads directly in the Blog post. The most critical click area is in the post and I know that my click rate would be higher if I could do this.

Idea # 2
The ability to use "Track backs" as I grow my blog and learn more I have learned that track backs are a great way to gain major traffic. If you are wondering What is a Track Back Here is a great article explaining them. Track Back Article

Idea # 3
Adding a Blog widget that puts the most popular posts in order on the blog so your viewers can easily find the most useful and valuable content.

Idea #4
Adding a Blog widget that allows the most recent comments to be shown. I get multiple comments from mulitple posts and the readers like to participate in the comments in a blog. So that would add value to them.

Idea # 5

Yola already has the best free web site design availabe. If you improve the blog section you can be the best free blogger as well, beating out blogger and wordpress. I know that those are some big boys but with some new options you could do it.

Thanks Yola

Hi Casey,

It's really nice to see you back and to hear of your success. Congratulations.

I love the atmosphere of blogs. I like the vitality of new ideas, I like the critical responses and the general respect within the b(little b)logger community. It's a fanastic development of the internet.

Some of your points I can't comment on as I don't have the experience.

eg: #1

#2: reponsible "trackbacks" is a fantastic concept and I would dearly like to be able to use this on Yola. The limitation as I understand it is with Disqus. I am currently looking at other feed syndicators to see if I can overcome this. One step forward and two steps back at the moment :(

#3: Currently Monique is directing some research into an 'analytics blog search facility'. When this comes about, I think that your/our analytics will deliver exactly this information. Google Analytics has many API facilities and I would think that one of these would allow you to list and order your posts on a popularity basis........ to follow!

#4: off the top of my head. capturing Disqus comments in your email forwarding should allow sorting of the post topics being commented on. Simple analysis would show the numbers and reproducing this as a new post in order of number responses, would allow this to happen.

#5: Yola blog can pretty well match the flexibility of the others you mention and I agree that it's an open game and that Yola could most definitely be at the top. The culture of "blogism" I think is beginning to happen with Yola site builders. As we users develop more confidence in the whole game, the Blog will top out I am pretty sure.

Most of my solution ideas are work-arounds or alternatives at the moment. if these can be "automated" or rather when these can be widgetised, it will be a broadside no doubt.

Casey I'd really appreciate how you are managing some of these aspects currently. You sound as if you may be well ahead of us in your experience. That experience would be well received I am sure.

Goodluck Casey of course.

Hi Casey

Thank you for this thoughtful feedback on our blogging engine. The blog feature set that is currently live is our first round implementation. We haven't done significant feature development on the blog since we put it out at the end of last year. The reason for this is that we have some other vital features that we have to get out first. Once these are in place we would like to revisit blogging and make some improvements. I will most certainly capture your feedback and see if it can be worked into the plan.

@Peter - haven't forgotten about the site search data. I will follow up on that as soon as I can.

It is very helpful to hear from serious bloggers using Yola, so if there are more of you out there who would like to comment, please jump in. Let us know what you think of Casey's suggestions, or add some of your own.

HINT: having a blog on your site is great for SEO, so if you are serious about attracting traffic, this is definitely something you should try to include if you haven't already.

Great ideas Casey & Peter

For me, the only additional thing I'd really like is the ability to change the date and time.

For example, I don't often get to blog on the day the event actually occurred. So, it would be nice to have the feature of being able to enter the time & date of when it did occur instead of the time & date you actually did the blog post.

Thanks for all the feed back, every one. I found out that Disqus lets you do trackbacks. I have just got to figure out how to use it now. So I will keep everyone posted. or if anyone figures it out let me know.

I got it set up on my comment box by going into disqus and changing the settings. I am not sure how it works completely yet.

Hi, I'm just about to start adding a blog to my website and am feeling a bit daunted at the prospect! I hope it's not too difficult. I would like it to be interactive so that our site visitors can add their comments/information. Can you recommend where I might find some fairly simple instructions on how to proceed adding this feature to my site? I have become a 'YOLA addict' and hope that they can come up to scratch with my requirements for blogging!!!!

Hello Marian

From one Yola Addict to another, welcome! :) You sure can add a comment box to your blog if you wish with Disqus. We have provided step by step instructions here: How do I let people comment on my blogpost.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with setting this up!
