If I publish my site with Yola will my personal information be kept private or will it be accessible to anyone who searches?

I'm taking an online marketing course and (of course) they want me to pay for domain hosting from another hosting company.

I'm wondering if you could explain to me if either of the two following statements are valid:

"Your Domain Information is AUTOMATICALLY MADE PRIVATE! This is a service most domain registry companies charge $5 to $10 for. So the personal information you have entered, your home or business address, telephone number etc, is hidden when some researches that domain. (You can change this if you want)"

"With both domain and hosting under one company, resolutions for any domain vs hosting problems are much quicker and easier. You don't have to contact your domain company and they go back to your hosting company and vice versa. It's all under one roof"

#1 Ie: Does Yola Site keep my personal information private? Will I have to pay an extra fee, if it's even possible?

#2 Ie: Is it true that registering my domain name through Yola as well as having them host my site would save a lot of future problems?

Hi Katherine,

great to see you collecting this information in readiness :)

#1: If you purchase a domain through Yola you can pay an extra amount for privacy. This means your private information isn't on the WHOIS directory but appears as Yola or a related associate.

#2: Registering with Yola can save you problems If you're unsure of certain procedures related to moving domains etc. It simply means consolidation and easy accessibility in one place. Yola can help in these situations. If your domain is held somewhere else then it's not a problem but moving things around can be involved and take up to a fortnight of toing and froing.

I hope this answers your query. please feel welcome to add anything else or ask for further clarification.

What do you mean when you say "If your domain is held somewhere else" and "but moving things around can be involved"?
I was thinking of purchasing my domain name through "godaddy" and then creating and publishing my site through Yola. I don't know if that would qualify as my domain being held somewhere else or did you mean "if my domain name is being held somewere else" And Ie: where would I be moving things around and to or from? Are you maybe referring to me having a website already published elsewhere and then moving it to Yola site? I'm new at this so maybe I'm a bit confused?

Hi Katherine - if you purchase a domain from us, it is automatically setup and published to your site. If you use a domain you've bought elsewhere, you'll need to edit the settings on the domain so that it points to Yola. We have information on how to do this on this link (including GoDaddy): http://www.yola.com/customer-support/.... You won't be able to move a site built elsewhere to Yola. If you'd like to use Yola, you'll need to use our Site Builder.

Please let us know if you have any other questions :)

Hi Katherine,

Just to add to Peter's reply (thanks Peter!) - when you buy a domain from us, you can choose to buy domain privacy. It currently costs an additional US$9.95 per year.

If your site is published to a Yola subdomain (eg. katherine.yolasite.com), your details are kept private and not available to anyone.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
Could you please elaborate on that last post ... what is domain privacy? , Why to pay (besides getting a .com etc) is it better privacy wise than ...

"If your site is published to a Yola subdomain (eg. katherine.yolasite.com), your details are kept private and not available to anyone." ??
and what is WHOIS? ...

Also this ...
"You won't be able to move a site built elsewhere to Yola. If you'd like to use Yola, you'll need to use our Site Builder. " ???

I thought i read that this was possible ... I mean you can use like Dreamweaver or something can't you? .. then copy over the code?
Do you mean a Website built with another online "SiteBuilder" can't be transferred?

Please clear this up for me , thankyou :)

Luc

P.s. Always try and get an extra Question in :D ... Is there a way I can save my WebPages , start Anew (With YOLA sitebuilder (and HTML editors?)) copy over the elements I want to keep the same to the "CLeanslate" then just wipe the old ones (rough Drafts) ? Cheerz. :)

Hi Luc,

All great questions!

WHOIS is a tool to look up a domain (try it out on this link: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois.... If you've purchased a domain, the details you enter when you buy it will be available on WHOIS. You can pay a little extra to replace your personal details with your domain registrar's contact information. This is entirely your choice - some people don't mind having their information available, some people do.

You won't be able to use something like Dreamweaver with Yola. Your site does need to be created using our Site Builder.

Your last question - is that within an existing site or a new one? You can use the "Save As' option to save copies of pages within a site (it's the drop-down arrow next to the 'Save' button). Unfortunately it's not possible to save a copy of a whole website to another one.

Please come back to us if you have any other questions.
