I'm glad for the free (period) Yola site! Great design! I guess I have to go, I'm being billed?

Hi and thanks for this opportunity to share. I've loved Yola about 8 months now, I went to Google and looked around for a free web site, because I am providing music and art studies free, so I am now in Yola. I just got a renewal bill for 1) the domain and 2) the hosting. I guess this is not really free but a free period so sadly I guess I will have to leave :(

Can I keep the domain name if I go to another (much cheaper and more services for pay or another freebie) host?

Is there not a free web site hosting from Google? I'll have to go back and see, I figured Google wouldn't steer me wrong, it's too bad many people have this URL.

No I have no money to pay to give away what I'm providing for free, nothing has sold $1 so I will not PAY to GIVE AWAY! I though this site was free.

I reeeeally like the setup, wizards, content widgets and Monique who developed these support forums did a fantastic job too! Kudos, hugs, kisses and bonuses all around! He he.. Thanks for a wonderful free period Yola! You are great (if one only needs the free period with no access logs etc..)! Wishing you continued success.

Happy camper,
Teo

Hello Teo,

Yola Free is 100% free. It looks like you may have bought a domain if you're being billed.

If you do not want to renew your domain, you don't have to. You will only lose the domain name, not your actual site.

Yola offers a free subdomain though (your-site-name.yolasite.com). Once you don't renew your domain name and it expires you can use a .yolasite.com subdomain for your site.

Please see this article: Publish to a Free Subdomain

Also, there is no such thing as a free domain name, unless you win it somehow or do one of those offer things, which we all know most of those are jokes. :P Domain names cost a yearly fee to have on any hosting provider. However, most hosting providers including Yola offer a free subdomain (which I explained above). :)

I hope that helps.

Now I'm imagining that they DID cover the domain registration originally because I truly don't remember paying any 13.95 at all when I made this site! Also I find that high, but maybe I'll have to pay 13.95 for the domain, pointing and all, who knows maybe for that price email? No, that's hosting stuff..

The 2nd email I got is:

Nathan, is Yola Bronze the Free Yola? No, I guess. So why am I being asked to renew?

I certainly wouldn't mind staying, in a free Yola site, even with no web access logs and no meta tags like description, content, robots.txt and so forth, because I like pre-packaged solutions that are user-customizable, it's a lot of fun! I don't currently have the 2GB, tracking of visitors so I don't know what the free package is, and I am not sure what I'm signed up for now that I see what they want me to renew.. how can I renew what I don't have? Maybe someone accidentally put my site in another plan?

Thanks googols for letting me get this out, and I have faith we'll work it all out!

Sincerely, Teo

I believe that Yola Bronze is just because you bought a domain name.

If you don't renew, everything will be fine. :) You won't lose your site or anything; you'll just lose your domain name. I don't know what they mean in the first email. Yola gives you free hosting but then if you want more space and websites you can upgrade to Silver. But their free plan isn't listed on the pricing page anymore for some reason (it's just at the bottom but no details about it).

If you simply pointed your domain and registered it with another domain registrar, Yola wouldn't be billing you - the domain registrar would.

Could you post your domain name? Never mind, I see that you already posted it. :)

Also, did you purchase Yola Mail as well?

I went to your site and from the looks of it (no Yola link at bottom) you currently have Yola Silver. Did you get a free year of Yola Silver through some program (don't know of any program right now) or something, or did you purchase Yola Silver?

Hi Nathan,

Boy you sure are helpful! Thanks bazillions! I think, from what you've said and how I log in, that somehow Google in making an effort to help business in Canada which is where I am, gave the domain name setup for free, and Bronze - it says one of fife sites, I guess I have 5?

Many features though, like counters or any marketing stuff they want me to upgrade to Silver. So again, thanks for .. "listening," and I can figure it all out..

They must have given me the domain and Bronze for free, a promotion, and now they want some money. I don't really want to bug them, because they've given me everything so far and I'm not complaining anyway! But since I am not (can not afford to) going to pay them for this - I thought it was free, I don't know if they'll cancel it at the end of the year. I suppose I don't mind paying the $14 for that domain name, but as you said, things they used to list they don't anymore?

I have had http://givnology.com for almost 10 years. Now I do a lot in Canada and http://givnology.ca seems like a nice similar name. I got a year of that free, fine. If I just pay for that domain and that's the only paying, I'm fine, but as of now there is no payment method in my account, I don't want to you know, open the door for them to onsies and twosies and next thing you know I'm paying 9.95 a month and I don't have it! Not any actually.

I'm giving away tons of stuff free on my sites already, I'm not going to PAY to give things away?!?!? I don't think it would be safe to pay for the domain name, they'll then assume I can pay for other things - which they didn't mention up front - and then I'll be even worse off. So I'll just have to wait and see, and not have a lot of faith since it seems they don't want to give me more free domain or Bronze.

Where was the listing about their free site hosting that you mentioned? I haven't found anything like that, I would really like to see it, maybe you can copy and paste it into here - I would just like to know that they do have such a thing!

Meanwhile, I changed the required kaptcha into a "proof of humanity" that asks a simple math question, and one day I'll likely take orders - not for much though, ¢49 for access to all my files, and I wouldn't mind working with the Yola folks to set up the credit card purchases for that.

But I don't know if they will still let me have this site for free as it has been, do I need to change it's domain name - that means change all the business cards, links in social media and bookmarking, my blogs and dozens of discussion boards around the world.. so if they make me change all of that, you see, maybe I shouldn't trust them with the credit card purchasing setup I want - other charges will magically appear like these 2 I just got.

So I am overjoyed with the year free that I got, and well? It's been a blast! I like these support forums, it says Monique set them up, great job! I'm really impressed with the wizards and everything I've used, so thanks to you all!

Hi Teo,

You signed up via the Get Your Business Online program which provides one free year of hosting and a custom domain. Nathan is still correct that you can continue as a Yola Free user and publish your website to a free .yolasite subdomain. I can also confirm that your account is not set to auto-renew so you will not be charged and can simply allow your domain and hosting to expire.

Hi Laura,

Whew! I was worried, not any more! You are great! Yola too. I'm so relieved! Now I have a question maybe you can help me with, either way thanks googols...

I would like to have a CC purchasing system where members pay ¢49 and get a 7 digit code. Start at 1000001, then 1000002 etc. All I need the CC company to do is 1) take the order, 2) give them the code, 3) give me their name, email and code, because in a future reality they might get treats for things their code does. I wouldn't be refunding or doing any membership stuff except if I wanted to, with the name, email and code. See?

As mentioned before, I don't have any overhead budget, but I figure if the CC purchasing company could take maybe ¢9 for each transaction, we'll all be happy.

Any suggestions who could be my files-membership-code purchasing CC agent?

Hello Teo

Yola Support does not know in detail what CC companies could do for you to achieve the sales model you are describing, and it may be a better idea to ask CC companies about this directly.

Our Yola Online Store feature offers the option to sell egoods or intangible goods as well. If you could imagine investing a little less than $17 per month into your business idea, Yola Online Store may be the best way for you to go for. This option will also include all features of our Yola Silver premium package for your Yola website.

For more information about Yola Online Store, please see our tutorial Yola Online Store FAQ.

Thanks a lot Stefan! I am already way over-budget as far as paying TO
GIVE AWAY all the information on my web pages. Thanks for the great
suggestion though! The right CC company can surely take 9¢ a sale and
we're all happy. The only physical products I have available are
produced by Amazon's CreateSpace (again free), so I wouldn't need any
store.

You folks have all been super helpful! Thanks so much. Wishing
continued success to you all.
