I'm still confused about the advanced domain manager...

If I list 6 domains in the advanced domain manager and assign 1 as the primary, does the advanced domain manager create a 301 permanent redirect for the other 5 domains?

Am I better off, as far as google page rank goes, to forward the extra domains from godaddy and not have them in the advanced domain manager?

Thank You!!!

Hi Guido

I apologize for the late response.

If you would like your site's address to be redirecting to another address, you can do this by accessing your Advanced Domain settings: Assigning domains and creating a primary domain. However, you would need to make sure that any externally purchased domains are pointing to Yola before you can do this.

If you are trying to add a 301 redirect for a specific page on your site, unfortunately we do not have a feature on Yola that you can use. An alternative would be to create that page, make sure it's not included in the menu and then add a snippet of HTML that will redirect your visitors to another page. This link will explain how to do that: Links that Redirect when you click on menu tab.

As for this question:
Am I better off, as far as google page rank goes, to forward the extra domains from godaddy and not have them in the advanced domain manager?

This is a bit out of my expertise. I am going to ask Emmy if she can respond to this question. She's currently offline right now but once she returns, I'm sure that she'll be glad to assist. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Guido,

When you point your domains to our ip address so that you can publish your Yola site to them, and then you assign those multiple domains to your site in the Domain Manager, choosing one as the primary, the others that are not the primary will all 301 redirect to it. As far as the search engines are concerned, this is the best was to go about having multiple domains for a single site.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Sanja and Emmy! You girls rock! I took a big hit in rankings last week when I changed from my old .synthasite domain, but after 3 days working on new links and writing a new home page article, I'm back on page 1 and 2 again. I have the extra domains in godaddy with 301's and since I'm almost back to where I was, i think I'll leave it alone for a while.

Thanks again for clarifying.

P.S. I found this, and it works great for checking redirects
