I'm thinking about adding free and paid memberships to my website subdomains and could use some ideas.

My subdomains for example will be Health and Fitness at http://health.youcanneverbetoosmart.com and my next one to be created will be Astronomy

I want to add free memberships and paid memberships but could use some ideas as to what to offer... some ideas I've come up with...

  • Health and Fitness Free Membership

  • Health and Fitness Newsletter

  • to include such things as

  • health and fitness news
  • reviews of good health and fitness resources ranging from aerobic videos to websites
  • major discoveries in health and fitness
  • health and fitness tips, etc.

  • 1 Page personalized health and fitness report including dieting suggestions and workouts specific to each person's goals.
  •
  • Health and Fitness Paid Membership

  • Health and Fitness Extended Newsletter to include extras
  • Discounts on items purchased from Health and Fitness Store
  • Membership ID sent via mail free of charge (add picture to ID for extra $1.00)
  • Special Website Access - pages only known to paid members
  • 5 page personalized health and fitness report including dieting suggestions and workouts specific to each person's goals.

  • These are just a few examples of some of the things I'd like to implement. Please provide other ideas. Feel free to pick any main topic from my website and give insight. A main topic would be such as Health and Fitness whereas Medicine is a sub discipline of Health and Fitness. Astronomy would be a main topic and Galaxies would be a sub discipline, etc.

Could use some ideas, especially ones which will persuade users to purchase a paid membership. Thank You!

    Hi Donald

First thing is that I don't care for paid sites.
Second if you (or I) were to charge for someone to gain access to our site for information how much responsibly would we be liable for?

If in the field of diet I be scared to death to offer advice (paid or free). Yes I suppose you could make money if you had a great diet plan. How many people have made claim that their diet would be the best for them. They lose weight, then put it back on. Is your diet plan a success in losing, or a failure because that person gain weight again.

If I were to charge for some advice or solution for a problem I would do a google, yahoo, bing and any other place I could find to see if the same information was available else where for free.

When I do find something on the internet that I like does it have a guarantee. What does the guarantee offer and does it protect the seller, buyer or both. Does some one else have the same plan for free and how much traffic do they get.

If I were to offer anything on the internet I come up with a privacy policy, guarantee plan, legal disclaimer, and make sure that my liabilities were covered.

Even when I did dropshipping and had all the safeguard in place some one some where always was not happy no matter how you try to work with them.

Remember when some one pays on the internet they will probably use a credit card. If you offer a money back guarantee minus handling charges you can still end up returning all the money even though in your policies you state different. All some one has to do is by-pass you (and your policies) and go directly to the credit card issuer and get a refund threw them. Want to fight the credit card people they may not let you process their card anymore. If they use a check that can bounce.

Even using a credit card processes when a credit card company will tell the processes they want the money back and usually get it. After all if the processor makes money for processing the card, how far will they go to help you.

Good luck to you and be careful. Follow threw (and get all the information) on what in involve in collection of funds, product offer, your policies. The more thought and planning that you do at the beginning the more successful you'll be. I thought I had it all together for dropshipping and found out different, even with all the planning.

Well... the free membership would definitely be listed first as in... here, we don't really care if you pay us or not, it's optional... go on, take the free services which would include a few things that would not cost us anything really. But I want to offer the option to pay for services you generally can't find for free. Free diet plans and workout routines on the internet are generally based on likes and dislikes (sometimes), weight, age, gender, and current activity level but also based on an automated generated response given by selected answers. My workout routines and diet suggestions would be personally done by me and my expertise I have in the fields as being in the martial arts since 3 years old - I would say I have the qualifications since martial arts involve nutrition and workouts/aerobics as well as the courses (college) I've taken regarding nutrition. In addition to providing suggestions to dieting I would also provide recipes and recommended ways of cooking these suggestions as well as other health tips. In addition to providing workout suggestions, I would also include detailed descriptions of how each workout should be done. And as far as "being careful" with suggesting stuff such as dieting and exercising, I am very well experienced and know what I'm doing relating to health and fitness. Also, another reason I'd like to provide paid (optional) memberships is because I want to be able to maintain an optional mailing option which may in the future include such things as related magazines. I'm working with a friend to get a magazine published and this will be included in the package. I'll have to pay my friend $1.00 for each magazine, but I'll be selling the paid memberships for AT LEAST $4.95 hoping to go as much as $9.95. So I definitely think the memberships will be worth it.

Sound like you have a plan and experience to really make this happen. I can't wait to see more as you developed it. With the backgrounds that you have here you should attract a large number of customers.

    Good luck & Season Greetings

yea, thanks... I am wondering though, how to customize paypal options.

I recently made a "free purchase" - it was a trial and I used my paypal to pay for it. The paypal account activity for this purchase said...

"created" instead of "completed" - meaning no purchase was paid yet because it was a free trial. And then the description of the activity was "free for the first week" and then "$9.95 per month recurring afterwards" and paypal does it automatically... after the first week they charge you. However, I canceled after the free trial (my original intent) and it went through no problem as a cancellation. How do you specify perimeters and options like this?

    When ever I had a question with Pay-Pal I'd call Pay-Pal @ their 800#

You'll pay a fee to them and they have an 800# I make them work for their money.

They do a good job at answering all your questions.

Of course there is probably a thread or something some where with Yola.

Here's something I just listed that you might like? Well maybe

Really? I've talked to paypal several times regarding specifics on my account because I requested a check and 4 weeks later never received it and they've never charged me anything. Did you do it using your six digit code they provide you and is only valid for one hour?

I don't know of any time limit. I could be wrong on this. On my Pay-pal account when money is to be transfer it goes direct to my bank business account.
There are different accounts and they may have different restrictions.
I myself would never wait to long for money. If it's mine give it to me. Yes greedy but they don't pay interest for making me wait.
I do believe there is a time lag when it comes to check by mail. That's why I like direct to my account. When I did dropshipping the customer paid for product and I usually received payment before purchase conformation was sent to customer. I check with pay-pal again and find out why so long and where is the money.
Think Pay-Pal can give you all the information and hopefully answers that you need.

yes, they claim it should not take more than 14 business days and said it's odd that it's taken so long. Today I finally requested a stop payment and they'll refund the money to me since I never received a check. I did request a check by mail. Until I'm making more money, I'm not going to link a bank account to paypal. No need, I haven't even received as much as $20 in paypal.
