Image Files Not Displaying On My Site

When are you going to update us regarding the problem with images not displaying properly? It's been nearly 4 days of this! My sites look like crap now because half the image files won't load. This is basic, fundamental functionality. Why can't you manage even basic service?

Hi UgoF

I can see how you might feel that this is taking ages and that it looks pretty incompetent on our end that we can't sort out something as basic as this.

However, maybe if I clue you in on what is going on behind the scenes it will help a little bit. Yola is currently experiencing a massive Denial of Service attack. The kind that would typically bring the average web host to it's knees and would have done the same to us if we had not put state-of-the-art defenses in place. Our defenses are working in that our sitebuilder and customers' sites remain available. However, we believe that one of the unintended side effects of our protective measures is that images intermittently don't appear on a small sub-section of our users' sites.

While we are delighted that we are succesfully withstanding the DoS attack, we are of course very frustrated by the ongoing problems some of our customers are experiencing. It is just that it is extremely difficult to find the cause of the problem. I assure you that our engineers are doing all they can and that they are actually doing an exceptional job at maintaining the availability of our service under very difficult circumstances.

We will not rest until everything is fully restored - we just can't tell you how long it will take. We will provide updates as soon as we have them.

Thanks for the information. I can appreciate the issues you are dealing with. My only comment would be that it would have helped to have an announcement posted on this issue in the Yola support forum or status page so that we weren't left in the dark as to the source of the issue.

As for my current status, my sites are still suffering from this problem. It seems to clear up in the evening and then revert during the day.

Hi vcnz,
I'm really sorry to hear this is not yet fixed for you. It seems to be an intermittent problem as Monique said we are looking into this fully. We do apologize for this definite inconvenience and hope to have some positive news for you soon.

@Emmy: it's the same for other users as well

@Monique: I'm a system engineer and it sounds almost unbelievable to me. Even a firewall priced 300eu with basic features offers efficient protection against DoS attacks and I cannot imagine an enterprise environment not protected properly against such threat.
Also, the DoS attack can be blocked at network layer, I cannot imagine you have a protection in place for a DoS attacks that affects contents (application layer) not being loaded properly.
In the worst scenario, I would expect the service's response time slower than usual while under attack, since the firewall could be too busy to drop unwanted connections, but it doesn't look like this is the case. I've been monitoring my site and got always the same response time (around 19msec).
Sorry, I do not believe there is any dos attack there. it seems contents are being stripped by a proxy rule on a firewall somewhere. If you have your own firewall there, I would try to let the traffic for a site (perhaps mine) to go out through a packet filter policy instead of a proxy policy and you see.

Hello all,
We do understand that this is very frustrating for you, and we are looking into ways that we can solve the problem right now. If you seem to be having problems with your images fully appearing on your site, or not appearing at all, can you please email support@yola.com and we can work with you further from there with a temporary workaround. We're fully committed to working on this until it is solved, thank you for working with us.

Thank you,
Emmy

FYI, I'm still having problems with one of my sites. One seems okay now (for now), but the other is spotty with some pages much worse off than others. The frustration continues....

I've just checked them this morning and they appear to be okay, at least for the moment. I'll keep an eye on them through out the day.

This topic is over 3 years old, but this is the problem I am having today and recently with my site. Some images-that have been on my site for over a year have disappeared on the published site: http://corpuslandscaping.com

Why is this happening and what can be done?

Hello Melanie

When I open your live site, everything seems to be ok. Can you please detail a little more which pictures on which pages disappear? Please also try to clear you cache and cookies and in another browser.
