Improve your site speed - improve your site ranking!

Did you know that if you speed-up your page loading it will improve your site's ranking in Google?

I got carried away with adding Amazon MP3 widgets to my http://www.simplyeighties.com website about a month ago - especially on the home page - and my site dipped very badly in the search rankings. It may have been coincidence, of course, but I can't think of any other reason for the dip.

After reading about how site speed is now more important than it once used to be, I decide to delete some Amazon and widgetbox widgets as it slowed down the page loading speed. Hey presto! My site ranking was back to normal, and I now find myself on page 3 (the highest ever!) in a search for 80's, and my overall visitor numbers are well up. I still need to improve the home page loading speed even more, but I more than pleased with the results so far.

Also, posting new material and updating my site every two days is really helping to hold the site in this position, too. My goal is to get to the first page, of course, and hopefully this will happen over the coming months.

Hope this info may help other Yola users!

Hey Marky,

Really great information! Yes, I can see how faster load time would be a biggee to the search engines as this makes for a better user experience. Also really glad to hear you are posting new material to your site as well, that is by far one of the best things you can do to be noticed and taken seriously by the search engines!

Thanks! Yes, I find Google loves regular posting of new material, as do your site visitors. And an interesting site also increases the chance of people re-visiting and even linking to you from their own sites and blogs.
