Internet Explorer Will Not Load MY Site Correctly

I recently published my website which looks great in Safari and Firefox, but it simply doesn't load right in internet explorer. My banner is the default, my custom ads won't load, and the site is slow and inefficient as a whole. It also adds borders around my content and is just making my site look really bad. I need to know why this happening and how to fix it, because I can't afford to lose customers over Internet Explorer being fickle. Please Help!

Hello there Leaguehound,

Please could you share you URL and which version of IE you are inquiring about.

Internet Explorer 8 and below, does not have CSS3 where as Safari and Firefox (aswell as Chrome and Opera) do. This could be part of the issue. CSS3 is the newest version of CSS, which gives styles to your page and every website uses CSS.

I understand your concern about your IE customers as IE is the widest used browser.

If you share your URL, we can look at your website, and if it only affects certain pages, please let us know which pages it affects.

Hi shot,

I don't know what's happening your side as I can see your site with both IE8 and Chrome including the the same top for both.

Please see the bottom of this thread for the screen captures as they can't be loaded into a follow on comment on this forum.

Not sure on the version only, because I don't use IE myself. I have had some friends/customers that have made me aware of the problems. Like you said, I built everything on Safari/Firefox, which never had a problem at all.

It is affecting all pages currently. The banners I am placing on every page are replaced with the default one, the black borders seemed to be on every page, and the pictures/ads being cut off were on random pages, but were fine on others.

Appreciate any assistance.

Have you used Custom CSS?

If you have, did you use the CSS editor or add it through a HTML Widget?

Ignore that last comment, I have seen the Page Source which has answered my questions!

To solve the banner issue, please remove the following code from your Custom CSS, this will be causing the IE issue there...

div.ys_header {
clear:both;
background: url(http://s1.yolacdn.net/V0020416/templa...) top left no-repeat;
_behavior: url(http://s2.yolacdn.net/V0020416/templa...;
padding:30px 0 0 37px;
height:298px;
voice-family: "\"
}

And to fix the issue with the border, please try removing the selected section from the following:

/* Below is the table CSS
*/
.rowcolor {
background: #EEDFCC;
}
.headerrowcolor {
background: #8B8378;
}
table
{
width:100%;
}
th
{
height:50px;
text-align:center;
}
table,
{

//// REMOVE THIS BIT (BELOW) ////
border: 2px solid black;
}
////REMOVE ABOVE HERE ////

td
{
text-align:center;
}
td,
{
height:50px;
vertical-align:center;
}
/* Below is liquid corner code
*/

This should work!

Let me know if it does not - if you would like to test the website in another browser than the ones installed on your computer, try: www.crossbrowsertesting.com and sign up to a free account but, do cancel the account after you have finished your testing otherwise it WILL charge you.

Good luck,

Andi

I have another question before I do this. If I remove these things and it crashes the site, is there a timely manner in which the site can be recovered?

While learning CSS I crashed two Yola practice sites and I cannot afford to have this happen to my actual site, so I need to be super careful.

Also, will those changes, alter how anything looks on the rest of the browsers?

Okay, the first bit will remove the banner issue. This will definitly not affect your website because all it is doing is creating a duplicate of the original CSS which is overriding your Custom CSS when viewed in certain versions of IE.

The second bit of code I believe would remove the border around the modules in IE8 or below.

It should not crash your website!

Andi.

If your page (ever) does break then contact the Yola Support team and they may be able to fix it for you.

Ok, that worked well. My friend has been able to check the updates for me without using that crossbrowser thing. The banner and outlines are fixed and seem to be totally fine.

Our other major issue that I alluded to earlier is that graphics/ads/pictures are not coming up consistently on our pages in IE. If you look at the home page for example, the "advertise with us" picture links are fine, but if you go to the find my league page, the same ad should appear, but does not or does as a tiny strip.

Also, our brown headers for our page content on a majority of our pages is not coming up correctly in IE, either cutting it off, or just mangling it completely.

Any help on that?

Thank you so much for all your help by the way. The response rate and information has been amazing!

Hello there,

Thanks for the praise! I hope the rest of my advise will be as helpful.

The issue with the Adverts is due to you not associating a height attribute to the images. This is the image appears stretched because the browser is using the images default height (the actual image height). IE does not do this, if there is no height attribute and there is a height tag, it will go crazy and not show the image(s)!

What you should do is locate the HTML widget with the code in and replace with the following: (Without the <!--- and --->).

<!---

<div id="liquid-round">
<div class="top"><span></span></div>
<div class="center-content">

<a href="contact-us.php"><center><img src="http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/a..." border="0"height="<strong>Insert value here!</strong>" width="750" alt="Photobucket"> </center>

</div>
<div class="bottom"><span></span></div>
</div>

--->

Add the height value where shown.

Hope this helps, IE can be a pesky little pain in the bottom at times!!!

Hello Tabitha

Which version of Internet Explorer are you using? Please note that Yola only supports IE 8 and 9. When we checked with Internet Explorer 9, we couldn't find a difference to your website displaying in Firefox or Chrome.

Hi shot,

I don't know that answer and would suggest that you clear your browser cache and try again as a first strategy. This helps many similar issues.

may I ask the version of your IE?
