Introducing Yola Mail: easy email for your custom domain

Hi everyone

Today we released an exciting new feature that I wanted to tell you about. We've heard a lot of feedback from our customers that it is just too difficult to set up email for your custom domain using Gmail or Hotmail. We agree, so we got to work on making that easier for you.

We're happy to announce the release of Yola Mail, which allows you to easily add mailboxes to your custom domain for only $9.96 per mailbox per year. Our focus is on making it as easy as possible, removing all difficulties with setting up email for your domain. There are no additional accounts to register for, no fancy coding needed, no messing around in your domain settings. Just create a username and password, and you're done! Here is an example of what a mailbox looks like:

How to set up Yola Mail

Exactly how easy is it to set up email? Watch this... If you'd like to set up Yola Mail on your custom domain, just sign in to My Yola, and go to the Yola Mail tab. You'll see an option to sign up for Yola Mail:

When you click on the Get Yola Mail button, you'll go to a payment page. We made this simple by attaching Yola Mail to your custom domain for as long as your domain is active, so we'll automatically calculate the cost based on the amount of time you have left on your domain before it expires. After you've paid, all you need to do is set up your email address by adding a username and password:

And that's it, you're done! On the next screen you'll see your Mailbox settings, and a button to access your Inbox. Just add a bookmark to your Inbox in your internet browser and you can go there directly to access your email whenever you want. You can access your Inbox from any computer with our web-based email solution, or you can set up your favorite email program (like Outlook) to send and receive email.

We really hope you like this new feature, and we look forward to your feedback - let us know what you think! To learn more about Yola Mail and see more images of what it looks like, visit our web site.

Nice addition guys. I'm amazed at how far Yola has come in the 2+ years I've had the pleasure of being with you guys ( PS. 2 years on GS too). Like John, I would also love to transfer my domains to Yola. Pitty you guys don't do .cc's or allow PHP uploads for my other .com.

Email requires domain name management so we need to be your domain registrar. If a domain is not registered with Yola it could be transferred, or otherwise a person could purchase a domain name from Yola, and then take advantage of the email feature.

Smithy - it's not possible to transfer a .info domain to Yola at the moment. We can only accept transfer for .com, .net, .org and .biz.

Hello jeffwang16

We're sorry to hear that you're upset about the cost of using Yola email. We have researched and considered all factors when exploring this new feature. It's always a bit of a challenge to find ways to price things so that it's affordable for our customers and yet helps us to bring in a bit of revenue so that we can continue offering our services. We believe this is quite a reasonable price when you consider all that you get:

* Unlimited aliases (e.g. info@yourdomain.com and support@yourdomain.com)
* 2GB of email storage
* You can send up to 25MB per email
* Ability to check your email with web-based emails
* Ability to purchase as many mailboxes as you'd like!

If you decide that this is not affordable for you, you can still use Google Apps as an email option as this is free. However, we will not be able to provide you with email support as this is a 3rd party application.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Howdy - bit confused, because I'm sure I posted this query but I seem to have no reply (or if I did it's gone astray).

When I follow the steps "just sign in to My Yola, and go to the Yola Mail tab. You'll see an option to sign up for Yola Mail", I don't get a drop-down box of selections of my various domains - just one domain (which is or has expired, by the way).

I've tried in both Firefox and IE on Windows 7 (64-bit); but the drop-down box of selections is missing - just one incorrect option.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Axel - if your domain has expired, then you won't be able to use Yola Mail. Would you be able to post your site URL (if it's published to a subdomain) so that we can take a look?

No, I realise that - the only option I get is for RectronTalk.com, which is invalid, since it expired a while ago.

I want to register www.axelb.co.za initially (and possibly even www.lifecircle.co.za later)

Thanks

Hello Axel,
At this time we do not sell .co.za domain names, Yola only sells .com, .net, .org, .biz, .ca, .co.uk and .eu domains. To have Yola Mail you would need to have a domain registered with Yola. Possibly you will be able to find a domain using one of the extensions Yola currently sells.

Thanks - yes; that's it. Didn't think about that.

It's registered in South Africa but points to my Yola site.

Damn and tarnation.... well, I have a free custom domain, maybe I should migrate that to a .biz address (only option open to me, I think); will it work to move axelb.co.za to axelb.biz?

Thanks for coming back to me; really appreciated.

Why can't you have a .info domain? That's retarded! I paid for it and set up this website and now I'll have to re-buy another one and go through everything all over again!

Hi Ellis - Yola Mail is only for domain names purchased through Yola. If you've purchased a .info domain, you would to contact the company you bought the domain through for more information on setting up email. The settings for your domain are controlled with them.

At the moment we offer .com, .net, .org, .biz, .co.uk and .ca domain names. We're always looking to add more but sometimes the integration is not as easy as others.

Hi Geri,

I believe that you have mis-understood the Yola Mail scheme, if you have purchased a domain name with Yola, you can purchase the Yola Mail for that domain.

You can not have Yola Mail for the free subdomains and you can not have Yola Mail if you have the domain name registered with another provider.

Your email address would look as follows:

whatever you like@domain.com

for instance (these are not real so do not try)

info@andinorth.com or info@geri.com

If you have any issues let me know.

Ok what is so easy about this? Thought it was a couple clicks and your done...this is what it really is.....

Yola Mail - configuring your mail to use MS Outlook
If you would like to use MS Outlook as your email program, then you need to configure it so that you can send and receive email.

Please note: You can use the following procedure to configure any version of Outlook. Older versions of Outlook will use multiple screens and steps to capture information contained in step 5.

1.Open Outlook. If there are no accounts currently configured in Outlook, the Wizard will launch.
Click "Next". If you have another mail client on your computer, this window may open:
"This guide does not cover importing settings. Select "Do not upgrade" and click "Next".
Select "Yes" and click "Next".
Alternatively, you can open the "Add Account Wizard" by clicking the Tools menu and select the "Account Settings" option. (Older versions: "Accounts" option.)
The Account Settings window opens with the E-mail tab showing:
Click the "New" button. (Older versions: "Mail" tab and "Add" button. Select "Mail" and skip to Step 5.)
2.Click the "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" option and click "Next".
3.Click the "Manually configure server setting or additional server types" checkbox and click "Next".
Note This guide does not cover the Auto Account Setup function.
4.Click the "Internet E-mail" option and click "Next".
5.Provide the following information:

◦Type your name in the "Your Name" field. (This is the "Display Name" field in older versions.)
◦Type the email address given to you by your provider in the "E-mail Address" field.
◦From the "Account Type" dropdown, select POP3 or IMAP.
◦Type the address of the incoming mail server that your provider gave you in the "Incoming mail server" field.
◦Type the address of the outgoing mail server that your provider gave you in the "Outgoing mail server" (SMTP) field.
◦Type the user name given to you by your provider in the "User Name" field. (Remember, this is your full email address.)
◦Type the password given to you by your provider in the "Password" field.
◦Click the "Remember password" checkbox to select this option.
6.Click the "More Settings" button. The Internet E-mail Settings window opens.
7.Click the "Outgoing Server" tab.
8.Ensure the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checkbox is selected. If not is not, click it.
9.Ensure the "Use same settings as my incoming server" is selected. If it is not, click on it to select it.
10.Click "OK".
11.Click "Test Account Settings" to validate the information you entered in this window. Note If the test fails, double-check the information you input. If it is correct, try the test again.
12.Click "Next".
13.Older versions only: select a connection method.

◦"Connect using my phone line" if you dial-up your provider.
◦"Connect using my local area network (LAN)" for all other methods.
14.Click "Finish". You are returned to the Account Settings window. Note If you have multiple accounts configured in Outlook 2007, you want to set this or another account as the default account. Continue with the following steps to set a default account.

◦Click on the account you want to set as the default account.
◦Click the "Set as Default" button.
15.Click "Close".
If you are experiencing a problem with setting up your outgoing mail when creating your external email account, please try switching the STMP port setting to 587 or 8025. Some service providers block port 25 for security reasons.

Hi Geri,

It looks a lot more complicated that what it actually is! When I first saw it I got confused too.

I can help you set it up if you like, it is different for each version of Outlook, so if you could tell me which version you have, I should be able to help.

Hi Geri,
I just want to comment further on what Andi North was explaining. If you have a domain name purchased from Yola, you can also purchase Yola Mail to go along with your domain so your email address would be along the lines of geri@domain.com.

The instructions you have found for configuring this with Outlook aren't super easy, no, if you want to use another mail client that would take some setup outside of the Yola environment. What is easy is if you use the Yola Mail interface as it really is quick to get set up and then easy to manage your email there.

I do see that Andi has offered to assist you. Thanks Andi!

Yes thanks Andy
But i have going through this is see that it would take about as much time and effort as it was setting up th website...I have tried the 3 out of 4 Clients listed and because i use a PC windows product i didn't try the Mac...And as i have been trying to explain..none of these are working, no-one will configure their computers to email me this way.
This is misleading to say in the above ad that after a couple clicks you are ready to send emails. That is not the case at all.

Sorry i don't know how else to put this and it's very time consuming to have to go through this. Please just be upfront and honest with us...put this information up front so we don't have these issues.

Hi Geri,
I just want to make clear the fact that you don't have to use another email client to manage your Yola Mail, we have an entire interface for you already set up.

When you purchase Yola Mail you can either access it from your My Yola page by clicking on "Yola Mail" or by going to http://mail.yourdomain.com/mail (substituting "yourdomain" for your domain name). Using either of these methods you would then be able to be in your Yola Mail account and manage things from there. Here are some screen shots:

I hope that helps explain things. If you have more questions we'd be happy to answer them.

Thanks but in the very beginning i stated, or this whole point to the email address was so the business website site would be the email name...some how it keeps getting shuffled right out of the picture again. My clients are comtacting me though my Gmail accounts but i wanted it appear as a stand alone website email minus the Gmail name or any other email address at the end of @blah blah .com name for that matter. Again this does not help me and is redirecting away from the main reason for this product being offered. To use your Website Name....Thank you for trying. I have to say there is plenty of support but it's the product offered that is the issue.

Hello Geri,

With Yola Mail your email address would actually be...

info@yourdomain.com

Where 'info' could be changed to whatever you like, these are called aliases and you can have as many as you like.

The 'yourdomain' will be the website URL.

This would mean that you would not have anything relating to Yola in your email address.

You will be able to set up Yola Mail for online viewing with just a few clicks and Emmy's second screenshot shows you the URL you will have to go to check your emails. (it would be mail.yourdomain/mail - replacing yourdomain with your website URL)

And her third screenshot is the Yola Mail interface, which is very easy to use, drag-and-drop like GMail.

I hope this makes it easier to understand Yola Mail. If you have any more questions about Yola Mail, then we can help.

Hi Rian i understand the email thing and have been able to access it just fine all the long, that again is not the issue really. I still want to have the customer be able to just click my email address and it direct them to a way for them to message me.

I don't think the Yola mail is going to do that. Right now when i get a message from say, anyone using my Gmail email i get instant notification. Now when i try to set that up with the Yola email the server is not found. Everything is connected to my Droid so i get instant notification and i am able to reply in seconds.

The customers i am dealing with need help right away sometimes and they love that they can contact me almost instantly, it makes it more personal and puts me miles ahead of the competition.,

i want to branch that out to display on the website but i'm not getting that with the Yola mail.I also am trying the Wufoo which i do get instant notification and it goes to my gmail address , in turn i get the message on my phone. I will integrate that for now and see what i can use the yola email for because it is now just another email address i have no use for if i can't integate it into the website.

Hello riyadigitalstudio

You are right that they are other services that may offer things at a lower price. However, where I believe we stand out is the fact that we provide free hosting, unlimited bandwidth and traffic, 24/7 support via email and phone! So, in order to help sustain these fantastic features, we do need to make up revenue elsewhere which we feel encompasses the great value you receive when purchasing these items.

Hi, I'm having troubles with this set up, I've purchased the email addresses, which at $9-96 (For some reason £13-62) in the UK is very good value.

On my yola home screen I get My Yola, Site Traffic, Domains and account down the left hand side, no sign of Yola Mail, am I doing something wrong, am I on the wrong page?

Hello Fernando

Yola Mail is not offered with the Contecte seu Negocio program. When you sign up, you will be able to get your .com.br domain for R$ 29.95. If you would like to have an email address you will need to sign up with Google Apps to link your domain with your email address.

If you need further help, you can also post your question in the Yola Brazil Forum and chat to us in Portuguese.

I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you have more questions or need more help.
