Invisible Heading?

If I put a page heading it makes my site look not like I want it to cause the text gets in the way of my beautiful layout ;) But I was reading up on SEO and I am getting the impression that it helps to have a "heading" with the name of the page to get a better ranking ...

So, is this true?

If so... can I have the info there without it displaying?

I love yola, can I have a job? haha... I just think you guys are great, its actually kinda annoying ... lol

Thanks for your help!
ps. you are not annoying... I am just lacking coffee :)

Hi ,
yes it is true. also I am a writer on SEO.

Yes , you can get a higher pagerank by adding major keywords in header.
But think, users do not need to read tags. They need content.
Search engines read headers and get thrilled.

Do you think that humen should make a script happy , or make human happy ?

Always be tricky.
Do not add poems as the heading. Just add a targeted topic. Then, you already got a header with keywords.

SEO is a big topic to discuss and very complex. But , my advice : try to make human happy. You will get happy in both ways.

Ps: my site hit pagerank 2 in 4 months : www.techrome.com

feel free to reply to this asking any other things.

Like you , also I like to have a job at Yola.

Sanja, jeremy, monique, emmy, kershnee or any others , can I join you ?

I agree, reptileparty, on the importance of using an H1 tag at the top of the page.

Right now I have the Yola page title blank so I don't mess up my banner. The source code reads:
<h1><a id="sys_heading" href="./"></a></h1>

I'm not sure how search engines interpret that blank H1 tag and there is no way I know of to get rid of that line in the code. I could redo my banner so I can use Yola H1 page title, but that's more work again.

Or could I the page title blank and use another H1 tag in the first html widget.

Are there more options? I don't know. I'd like to hear more thoughts on this.

I would put a headline on the page in a text widget with an H1 tag. For example, on reptileparty.com under the teachers page you have this heading: Reptile Party Inc. School Adventures which is an H2--just change it to H1. I also would do a lot more with the window titles by adding the keywords there that you want to rank for. ReptileParty would also do very well I think by going for Google's local business center. Put your location in the window title. Hope this helps.

Diane, do you think the blank H1 tag (mentioned in my previous post, is read by or given any meaning by search engines?

No, I don't think the search engines care. You can have several H1 tags on a page--though I wouldn't use too many. I'm not an expert though so don't take what I say as gospel. LOL If I knew what the search engines think I'd be a billionaire! Here is a bit of what I think of SEO only from my own experience: Window titles are very important, so is the page description, keywords not so much, but keywords in the content of the page are important. H1 tags count. so do other H tags. I think the search engines use H tags to determine if your content is readable by humans (just a guess by me). Anchor links are important--that is links to your site that use a keyword such as: Buy Website Design (with those three words linked to the site) rather than: Click Here with Click Here linked to the site. The time it takes to load your page is important--the shorter the better. Three is a good number to repeat keywords in the titles, content, etc. Search engines read the left side, middle, then right side. Why do blogs do well? Because most of them are two columns with the main content in the largest column on the left--engines thus encounter the main content first. Incoming links are probably the most important thing of all.

Thanks everyone!

Diane: So then, if I change it the h2 tag to h1 via the html button from within the text box, the new h1 tag will act as the heading would have normally, but now its in a place of my choosing?

Also, I am not 100% clear on what you mean by doing a lot more with the window titles. Do you mean putting a heading (like h2) on each paragraph with descriptive words that describe the paragraph below? And would I put those in their own text window?

Thanks... :)

1st question: Yes, you can also have several h1 tags on a page--though not too many.
2nd question: the window title is what shows at the top of the browser--you will find the area to input this in the Yola sitebuilder in the Properties tab on the right hand side. For example, look up at the top of the browser for this page and you will see: Invisible Heading?
