Is "Domain Registry of America" a scam?

Hello, I have the silver yola package and love it. I currently pay monthly for it.

However, about a month ago I received a letter from the "Domain Registry of America." They noted that my domain name registration is "due to expire in the next few months."

They continue by saying "When you switch today to the Domain Registry of America, you can take advantage of our best savings. Your registration for: will expire on May 27, 2013. Act today!"

I though by paying for my domain on yola, I'm free of any other external charges. This company that emailed me is not a Yola-based company. They're asking for a one-year payment of $35, 2 years for $60 and 5 years for $120.

Are they for real? Or is this a scam? Thank you for any tips coming this way.

Hi Pi,

I can assure you that the Domain Registry of America is in no way associated with Yola. They contact you using information available on the WHOIS database. While it may not necessarily be a scam, it is an underhanded and sneaky attempt to lure you to transfer your domain services away. You can disregard any information pertaining to your domain that does not come from Yola direct so long as we remain your hosting and domain registration partner.

Hi Laura, what a relief. Their letter looks so official, so "together" that I was about to make the payment. As a newbie in all of this, it's good to know that there is wise advice lurking in our yola community. Best wishes and thank you. Will throw away that darn letter now...
