Hello Lee. hover text and alt text are the same.

To add this kind of text to an image added with an image widget just edit>alt text and add your text.

For an image added with a text widget (or straight HTML):
Select the HTML button when you are over the image and add
alt ="your alt text here" to the HTML

eg: <img src="resources/images/logo.gif" alt="logo graphic ">

Hello Lee

I need to correct Gop on this one: Title text and hover text are the same.

Alt text is displayed in place of a picture should a browser should fail to load it. Also, alt text tells search engines what your picture is about, so what you add as alt text is relevant for the search engine optimiziation (SEO) of your site.

If you add a title tag to your image tag, the text you add will be shown as hover text for your image. The code would be e.g.:
<img src="resources/myimage.jpg" title="Summer in Canada" />
This will display "Summer in Canada" when hovering over the image.

You can and should add both title and alt tag, like:
<img src="resources/myimage.jpg" title="Summer in Canada" alt="Green trees in Toronto"/>

Hope this helps!

Hi Stefan,

I cannot find the area within yola sitebuilder to add the Alt text.

I have followed the tutorial, but can only seem to find where to add the hover text.

Where do i go to add the Alt text in order to help the SEO of my site please?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello Lee

It depends on how you added pictures to your Yola website. If you used the Picture Widget, you can add the alt text in the dialogue box. Just click on "Edit" in the top left corner of the widget, and you will find an "alt text" field in the dialogue box.

If you added your picture in a Text Widget, click on the picture or into the text of the Text Widget, and you will see the Text Editing Toolbar popping up at the top. Click on the blue "HTML" icon on the right hand side of the toolbar. Then search for the img tag in the HTML code and add the alt text as shown in the code provided above. The same goes for pictures added to HTML Widgets.

Unfortunately you can currently not add alt text to pictures of a Picture Gallery Widget.
