is there a process for directing other domains to a specific domain?

I have 5 domains. These have evolved and have become familiar to users. Now I am creating a universal site which will cover the information within the other sites and I wish to dissolve those sites.

I would however like that if a user goes to those or any of those sites that they will automatically directed to the new site.

If you know of this process could you tell me what it is called and I can try and work it out. Thank you

Hello Gop,

This can be done with a little bit of code. In the sites that you wish to redirect to your main site, paste the following in an HTML widget:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location = "PLACE THE URL OF THE SITE YOU WISH TO REDIRECT TO"
//-->
</script>

I hope this information was useful, and let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind regards,
Brandon

Thank You Brandon.

Can you explain what a user will see when they go to one of these sites with this script added presumably to the opening page?

I would like to minimise their exposure to the old site simply to re-inforce the new site address. So would something like this script open the old site and then re-direct to the new site? Or does it happen so quickly that they won't see the content of the old site?

Another question on the same topic. is there something I can do at the DNS level that will re-direct?

I'm getting informed and thank you for your information.

Hi Gop,

We don't offer domain forwarding so a redirect is the best way to go. On the bright side, redirects are very fast and as such your visitors shouldn't see the old site. You could even redesign the homepage of your old site to mirror your new site to streamline the look if there is a delay.

Thank you Laura. There is a presumption that they land on the homepage and with a product based site they may land on another page where the search has taken them, for that reason I will set up the redirect on every page I think. One other question I have :)

Does this script generate the '"space" in an iframe or is it something else? I don't want the inevitable problem in iframes of disabling the back button.

Thanks again for your work.

Hello Gop

If you use redirects on your site, then it will not generate an iframe. It will take you to the site it is redirected to immediately.

I hope this answers your question. Let us know if you need further assistance with it.
