In a site I developed for a non-gonvernmental agency, I have created a "Documents" page for visitors to the site to download publicly available meeting notes. There is currently one document there. The site owner has asked me the folIowing question:

"Is there a way to display a list of the docs, and sort them by posting date, without showing the PDF logo and actual file name? Essentially, it seems like this would be similar to displaying an alias which is linked to the actual doc."

I have looked at several free widgets and can find nothing that offers this capability. The closest I have come are some Google Docs widgets, but these require a log-in to the Google Docs site, and that is not publicly available to all.

Hello Lew K

What you can do is the following:

1. Drag and drop a Text Widget onto your page.
2. In the Text Widget type the words that you want people to click on (this is your link text).
3. Highlight the link text and then click on the link button (it's the 10th button from the left in the text editing tool bar, and looks like the link in a chain).
4. A link editor dialog box will open up and you will be given 4 options. You can select to link to a file in your file manager.

You will then have a link on your page. To check that your link is working preview your page and then click on the link.

This is a brief explanation of how to add links, we have written a tutorial that shows the process in more detail. Here is the link: Creating Links. For a step by step video on how to Add text links please see: Adding text links.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

I kept thinking I should use a widget, but this way is much better for their needs. It lacks a sort, but they can easily sort by a cut-and-paste fo the text.
Thank you, Sanja!
