When you publish a site you have an option to publish to a free subdomain. Click on the yellow "Publish My Site" button. A dialog box will open up, select a free subdomain by filling in the first box and follow the prompts to publish your site.

It's literally impossible to get a free upper-level domain name (.com, .org, .net, etc...) because all domain names need to be renewed once a year, and no one is going to do that for you for free. Any service that offers a free domain name is either lying or not showing you the fine print clearly enough.

Your best, and cheapest, bet is to use a really short subdomain. I use .

Here's a forum tread where you can learn a little more about it.
