Hello Yola, long no see.

I've been kinda busy lately with coding and totally forgot about adding a new July Request. So now the Yola Employees don't have to redirect them to the only Request. I will try to help everyone out since I love helping you but while doing this I also code other stuff so please be patient with me.

For those people how have no clue what this is:

Welcome, this is what I call a Code Request post. I try to do one of these every month. On these posts you guys will have the opportunity to request a code. Just explain what you wan't, in great detail, and I will see what I can do. I WONT code a whole webpage, but I will make you the features you can't. I will do this using JavaScript coding. This is a client side scripting language that can make a website more functional and fun.

So, go ahead...request your code and I will see what I can do for you!
Have a nice day yola.

Hm, i'm not sure I will be able to make a search box for a widget already built in to Yola. Can I get the page that this online store is on so I can see what I can do.

I would really like to use the full width of the screen. I'm using a 24 inch screen with the Wide rounded glass template. About half of every page is empty space. My site is used to present information so most of my visitors also have wide screens.

All of the templates on yola are centered and should stay like that to fit on all screens. Can I get the url of your site so I can see if I can make the site wider for you. Also just because you present information doesn't mean your users have a big screen.

Yeah your going to need to delete that CSS. It looks really bad. You wont be able to change the frame since they are images fixed to a width and wont get wider. + You made the width way to big. 100% is too big for my screen. Try 87 or 88. Which should still be wide enough.

Take a look at this:

I find this looks far better. The css for this is:

<style type="text/css">
div.layout {
width:90.65%!important;
overflow:hidden;
border-radius:15px;
-webkit-border-radius:15px;
-moz-border-radius:15px;
-o-border-radius:15px;
-ms-border-radius:15px;
}
div.layout div.top {
background:none!important;
}
div.layout div.middle {
background:none!important;
width:113.96%!important;
margin-left:-7%!important;
margin-top:-4.2%!important;
}
div.layout div#sys_banner div.shadow {
background:none!important;
box-shadow:0 0 37px black;
-webkit-box-shadow:0 0 37px black;
-moz-box-shadow:0 0 37px black;
-o-box-shadow:0 0 37px black;
-ms-box-shadow:0 0 37px black;
}
div.layout div#sys_banner {
margin:0 15 0 14.65%!important
}
div.sys_navigation {
margin:0px 12.85% 0 14.60%!important;
}
div.layout div.bottom {
background:none!important;
}
I9 {
margin: 0 0 0 2.2%!important
}
</style>

I can't guarantee it will look the same on your screen though. I'm not a master at getting stuff to look the same on different size screens. Just try that out and hope for the best.

Unfortunately that didn't work well. The form Heading is cut off on the left side which I can handle but the embedded form and data view is cut off on both the left and right side.

Can you still add that code to the site. This way I can fix those issues. Just need an extra margin.

Hi Shawn,

My site has compatibility issues with IE9 and probably all the previous versions of Internet Explorer. Is it possible to create a pop up window that only displays for IE users warning them that my site is not compatible and to use Google Chrome instead?

Many Thanks
Edmund

hi shawn
i want a way of letting users submit articles for my site but i want it all to be held in one page (so that i dont clog up my page manager) in some form of html widget. i have no idea about html so i dont know if you would be able to do this (or the difficulty of something like that ). another thing i wouldnt mind doing is using an external product (preferably for free) so if you know of any article submitting tools that would be a big help. (i tried looking for wiki style add ons but theyre all only one page of wiki and i want to have lots of articles within that wiki html add on)

Thanks
Justin

MMh, unless I use an iframe, I can't add this to a Yola site. Yola doesn't allow us to use PHP. This is the code I would need to make this.

Hi Shawn,

I've got a site where I'm sharing my music; currently doing an overhaul and replacing all the file widgets with actual download buttons using tags such as the one below:

Currently you have to right click on the link, then select "Save Target As" to download, left clicking will just open up the song in the web page.

What I wanted to know if there's any way you can force the left click to bring up the "Save Target As" dialog box? I know some websites such Soundcloud have this, is there any way to do it with Yola?

Cheers :)

Hi Shawn,

This is amazing what you are doing for people, thanks so much! I'm not sure if you can help me, but I thought it was worth asking :) Essentially I am trying to create some sort of an accordion style drop down for content (not navigation). Here is the link to my original post which shows some more details and an example of exactly what I'm looking to create: http://forum.yola.com/yola/topics/cre...

I've done a bunch of research on google and looked at guides however I'm still a little confused as I'm unsure if I can/how to use javascript with yola. On the original thread I've been given a link to a site that has a solution through CSS and HTML, however there are 2 problems:

1) The solution doesn't work with IE unless you use javascript, which brings me back to wondering how to do use javascript with yola.

2) I'm currently on yola bronze so I can't edit CSS. I'm deffinitely going to upgrade to silver at some point, however at the moment theres literally no funds.

My question to you is there a way that this can be accomplished through some sort of a script that will work through yola?

Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it!

Ah, sure it is, so you want accordion dropdowns. That is easy. I have them on my site: http://methods.x10.mx/doc. Which is still under development.

I can make them with the slide effect.

Sorry for the late reply btw. Please reply so I know I don't code for no reason and ill get started.

Ok, Done(: That was easy, here is a preview: http://jsfiddle.net/shawn31313/gSAYw/

Is that what you want?

Do you want people to allow to open them all at the same time?

Also I can't help with this since I know where the documentation for that code is. You can just post some javascript that uses some widget script since I dont know how to use it.

Oh I Know. You cant just use JavaScript. JavaScript is background code. Even though you could just append the widget to the body it doesnt.

var widget = new BIT.Widget({
"artist": "Lil' Wayne",
"div_id": "widget"
});
widget.insert_events();

In this following example they are making a new Widget. The options (the object) is this part:

{
"artist": "Lil' Wayne",
"div_id": "widget"
}

div_id is the ID on which this widget appends to.

So wherever you want to add this add this div:

<div id="widget"></div>

If you change div_id then you need to change id="widget" to id="{newtext}".

I should of saw that when you asked but I couldn't read it too well and I just didn't look at it good enough. Also make sure you are adding this to the HTML widget.

Here is an example of it working: http://jsfiddle.net/shawn31313/H4WSL/

Note that this widget doesn't look like it does on their site since they custom styled it with CSS.

The documentation for this code is here: http://www.bandsintown.com/plugins/js...

There is explains all of the options, div_id is one of them. But there are like 15 other options that might be useful

EDIT:

Actually all you need to do is remove the "div_id": "widget" from the code then it will just add to the body.

var widget = new BIT.Widget({
"artist": "Lil' Wayne"
});
widget.insert_events();

I took out the div_id and the comma after artist since that would create an error

Hi guys,

I have been looking at a new menu system for my webpage instead of the usual boring ones and came across one I liked which I have revamped etc to get it the way I like and it works fine here : -http://getfitandshapeup2.yolasite.com but when I have it on this website its not doing what its supposed to : - http://blank77.yolasite.com. Anyone got any ideas why this aint working, is it a confliction of javascript or something to do with the coding which is the exact same on both pages??

Thanks for any advanced help on this its greatly appreciated.

Craig
