Hi Sas

Welcome! We can certainly help you get going with your site!

To find our how many hits you are getting, the best solution I know if Google Analytics. You can also add a hit counter if you prefer. Here is a link to a tread in this forum that will tell you how to do this:

When you publish your site we submit it to Google on your behalf. You can submit it to other search engines if you wish - they should provide you with instructions on how to do this, but if you need help with any particular search engine I can research it for you.

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the primary mark up language used for websites. In SynthaSite you don't need to write any HTML yourself, but you do have the option of writing or pasting custom HTML using our HTML widget. You will also see instructions telling you to "copy and paste HTML embed code" This is a chunk of code that you copy and paste to add a widget to your page and it is provided by the widget service you are using (eg. Google Gadgets or Widgetbox)

I hope I have adequately covered all your questions. Please let me know if there is anything else you want to ask, or if anything I have shared with you is unclear.

Best wishes

Hi Sas, welcome!

When you publish your site we will add your site to Google's index of sites for you. There are lots of other ways to maximise your visibility and you can find some great tips in this thread here: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...

HTML is code that tells a computer what to do or display. The great thing about SynthaSite (in my opinion) is that you don't need to be able to write any computer code. We have done it for you.

Here is how you can add a hit counter to your site:
Adding a hit counter to your site is an easy, but not necessarily the most effective, way to track the visitors to your site. A service like Google Analytics gives you far more detailed and useful information about the visitors to your site, and it has the added advantage of only being accessible to you in your private account. To learn how to add Google Analytics, follow this link How can I tell how much traffic my site is getting?.

If you still decide that you want a hit counter for your site, here is an easy way to add one:
Widget Box, one of the widget galleries we have integrated with in SynthaSite, offers a several hit counter widgets. Here is the link:

To add this widget to your site:
1) Drag and drop a Widget box icon onto your page (you will find it in the "widgets" folder)
2) Click on the link in the dialog that will take you to Widget Box and search for "hit counter"
3) Copy the code
4) Paste it into the SynthaSite dialog box
That's it! You will have a hit counter for your site!

If Widgetbox does not give you a hit counter you are happy with, you could google for "free hit counter" and use a service like: http://www.website-hit-counters.com/. You can embed one of these hit counters in your page by:
1) copying the HTML code the hit counter service provides.
2) Dragging and dropping an HTML widget onto your page and pasting the code over the default code in the HTML editor.

Have fun creating your site. You can check out our tutorials at http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials

Please come back and tells us your websites address when you have published it!

I have tried to put a counter on my site : www.aahap.synthasite.com but that didn't work out so well so I tried google analytics. On this you can see how many page veiws, how many visits, how many different countries, sources, everything. Here is some more info: http://www.google.com/support/analyti... You just need to add an html to the bottom of every page. If you need help with that go here: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite... HTML is a computer language devised to allow website creation. These websites can then be viewed by anyone else connected to the Internet. It is relatively easy to learn, with the basics being accessible to most people in one sitting; and quite powerful in what it allows you to create. It is constantly undergoing revision and evolution to meet the demands and requirements of the growing Internet audience under the direction of the ยป W3C, the organisation charged with designing and maintaining the language.

The definition of HTML is HyperText Markup Language.

HyperText is the method by which you move around on the web โ€” by clicking on special text called hyperlinks which bring you to the next page. The fact that it is hyper just means it is not linear โ€” i.e. you can go to any place on the Internet whenever you want by clicking on links โ€” there is no set order to do things in.
Markup is what HTML tags do to the text inside them. They mark it as a certain type of text (italicised text, for example).
HTML is a Language, as it has code-words and syntax like any other language. When you put in certain codes you can make forms, backrounds (like for myspace) and so much more. The codes always use like theses <> Like ,<These words will be bold>, and these will not because they are not in the triangle brackets. Go here http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/starthe... for more information. Once you begin to really get in to your web page it will be easier to understand.

Oh and about search engines...
Some search engines will pick you up, some won't.
To get noticed you need imbound links. An inbound link is a link on another website or blog that links to your site. So for example, if you posted a link here it would be an inbound link. You can read more about inbound links here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inbound_...

There are a number of ways you can get inbound links:
1) Comment on blogs and include a link to your site (if the blog allows that sort of commenting and it is relevant to the thread - use good "netiquette")
2) Email people with sites that are related to yours and ask them to link to you

Remember to keep build up your links to other sites as well, as this also helps.

Here is a post in our forum where one user has shared a wealth of excellent ideas from his own experience:

And here is a thread in this forum where you can post a link to your site!:

Promoting your site through linking to other sites and getting them to link to you should be an ongoing project. It is especially important in with a new site, where most of your traffic will not come from the search engines, but from referring sites.

You can also try to add your site to google like this:
http://www.google.com/addurl/ When doing it like this there is no garuntee it will get on there though.

And by the way when you use google analytics it automatically adds your site to google. It may take a while to get on there though. So be patient. I hope that is enough information for you. Good luck on your site!
