Link an External Site with a Navigation Tab

  • Under Consideration
Yola could so easily provide a way for its clients to associate a link to an eternal site with a navigation tab. For example, a visitor to my website would click on a navigation tab and be directed to another website. This is a common function throughout the web, and I so much need this for my business - soon. Otherwise I cannot justify using Yola Silver or Gold.

A text or picture link is not professional enough for my needs. And I am not needing a temporary or work-around solution. Thank you for your consideration.

Hello Bradley

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it and will take it into consideration! I would like to know why linking from a navigation link to an external URL is important for your business. Would you mind explaining this to me in more detail?

And are you sure that you don't want me to give you a solution to achieve this? There is a way by adding one line of easy code to your page, and one of your navigation links will redirect to an external URL:
  1. Open the page which you want to redirect.

  2. Drag and drop an HTML Widget (Widget Menu > "Basic" Folder) onto your page.

  3. Paste this code into the HTML Editor which opens up:
    <script type='text/javascript'>if(!window.top.Yola){window.location='http://www.yola.com'};</script>

  4. Replace "www.yola.com" by the URL you want your page to redirect to.

This code will only work on your live site after you have republished. You can always open the page in your Yola Sitebuilder without the redirect happening.

I plan for the initial profitability of my business to depend in part on my clients' navigation to and from the main website (hopefully with Yola) and a forum (external site) at a sub-domain with a separate host. I hope later to need this navigation link functionality for use with sites of affiliates, sponsors, and/or additional sites that I could build through Yola Silver or Gold.

And while I recognize your effort to help by offering an alternative, I am not willing to risk the profitability of my business on a javascript hack that I know is not an industry standard.

Your online competitors offer this navigation link functionality right out of the box. And while I would rather go with Yola Silver or Gold than a less established service, without your timely implementation, I will be forced to seek business with one of your competitors.

Thanks again.

Hello Bradley

Thank you very much for another feedback. I hear what you're saying. We're definitely considering this option, but I'm afraid it is not on our agenda right now, so I cannot promise you that we will introduce it in the near future.

I'm sorry if that would make you leave Yola, and I hope that you may reconsider using the Javascript code as a transitional solution for you.

Thanks for getting right back to help me decide. I've already seen Yola sit on this for over a year. Continuing to wait indefinitely won't suit my needs - nor will the javascript hack. You apparently have good reason not to be concerned by your competition or the loss of one or more customers. That's reason enough for me to jump ship. Ta-ta.

Thanks for the workaround. I need this functionality too, because the Yola blog is EXTREMELY limiting. It does not allow me to save a post as a draft or schedule a future day/time for publishing a post. It also doesn't allow for multiple categories. Therefore, I am forced to use an external blog and link to it from my Yola site.

Hello Madison,

We realize the limitations of the Yola blog and can understand the need to have this function added since you're now wanting to link to an external blog.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and I'll pass this along to our Product Team for further evaluation.
