Has anyone had any luck w/ link exchange companies for bbetter ggogle ranking. I signed up for a free account on "Link Market" but it turns out that I need to pay (24.00/month) to actually use it. I have no problem w/ that but sneakiness right out of the gate has me a bit gun shy. I would be interested to hear if this has worked for anyone.
Thanks in advance

Hello Shannon

I have asked a colleague who is quite knowledgeable about this to respond to your query.

She's currently offline right now but she'll be happy to respond once she returns.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime and I do apologize for the delay.

Hi Shannon,
That's a good question. I would say that you need to be wary of this for a few reasons. You don't want to be getting links to your site from other sites such as link farms or very low page ranked sites as this could do more to hurt how your site looks in the search engines than help it.

The idea behind link exchanges is to swap links with other sites that might have similar content or content that compliments yours. It's the goal of the search engines to rank highly the sites that best answer a person's query. If you do link exchanges with sites that will be of use to your site visitor and make their experience better, than this is a plus to your site visitor and in turn the search engines.

That said, reciprocal links are not looked on as highly by the search engines as one way links, because reciprocal links are forced and not received naturally. When another site links to your site of their own free will, that is a vote in your site's favor because the other site is saying "Hey, I like this site enough to place a link on my site to it." The search engine looks at links that come into a site as votes for that site and takes that into account when deciding how to rank it.

I would say that before you sign up with a link building company you find out what sites they will be gathering links from, and make sure you can track it.

I hope that helps!
